Benefits + poker/gambling

MP33MP33 Member Posts: 6,305
I know this must affect others on here but understand why some ppl wouldn't want to comment. The stigma around benefits is still there

As i understand it you can't have more than 6k in savings as it starts to affect your benefits. If you go over 16k you lose your benefits.

I get extra benefits as i,m a single parent and get DLA for my son (i,m also in every night so don't spend much)

The little bits i pick up on poker and sports betting keeps taking me over 6k but i rely on my benefits. I,ve recently bought a car for 10K but now the DWP have requested (and received) all my bank statements/ISA's/shares etc. (apparantly its part of the crackdown). They haven't ,mentioned crypto yet

I,ve set my son up with a junior ISA (he's 6) and no one can touch that but what do you do if you get over 6k again and how do you explain poker winnings (and mine are very small)

I,ve got a telephone interview on Wednesday. Can't wait

If they've asked you to disclose full details then you need to disclose full details, I would imagine they would ask for crypto to be included in the investments section.

You will also have to provide up to date statements of all your betting accounts.

I would be grateful that we have a benefits system that allows you to spend £10K on a car, put money into savings/investments for your son and they still keep paying you. We have a very generous benefits system.

It would be best to keep as much in your Poker/Betting account as possible. Try not to withdraw any winnings, unless it is absolutely necessary...... and definitely try not to Deposit into Betting/Gaming accounts.

I don't know if you only play/bet on SKYPoker/SKYBET but it's better if you can spread your Betting/Gaming out a bit, using different Firms/Sites (sorry SP/SB)

I don't know for sure that you actually have to provide statements of your Betting/Gaming accounts...... but they defo wouldn't be happy to see a lot of NET depositing into Betting/Gaming Sites on your Bank Statements, which they can ask for.

    GOOD LUCK :)

By the way , am i doing anything wrong with how i operate my life
The family down the road are all on benefits , the old man does do deliveries for the local takeaway but they have two good cars just had the drive done and filled their garden with loads of xmas decorations inc a 20 foot Christmas tree
When the missus and me drive past we just look at each other and ask what are we doing wrong , we did have a wry smile over the weekend when everything was strewn all over the street due to the weather
Should i feel guilty over that wry smile and be condemned to an eternity of suffering

Absolutely not Sean. You can't put a price on a clear conscience, or take it for granted.

I can/do hold my head high
I'm working in Nottingham atm doing repairs on council houses for NCC and do you know what , each and every property i've worked on there is people in the household on benefits and they moan their bags off about me waking them up at 8AM .
"It's too early" "what have you come here for" ect ect
They are getting this work done for free and there has been one lady since i've been working there that's offered me a brew
I know all these people are not all the same some have disabilities and such but my oh my it's an eye opener
Oh another thing when i leave a property it's cleaner than when i went in , the knees on my work trousers are soiled every day due to the state of the floors

    Thx

I did disclose everything including crypto. It seems whilst i was saving for car i broke the 6k savings threshold and should have told them about "a change of cirumstances" so will have to pay some back. For anyone who doesn't know (i didn't) for every £250 over 6k of savings you lose £4.38 a month (think its the same for most benfits) but fair enough. At least its out of the way now

It’s the billionaires I feel sorry for if and when any government eventually ask them to pay a bit of tax now and again.
As for savings Isa’s and crypto, are they the new members of the X-men?
