I always followed the rule that there are two crews never to mess with - HMRC, & the Immigration Officers at USA Airports.
Only pain & misery awaits those who do.
Slightly off on a tangent but just after 9/11 we flew to the USA to then cross into Mexico for my other half to have cancer treatment there. It was a very stressful time. On the way back I was carrying a holdall with cancer drugs in it, fully declared but I was aware that a bag full of glass vials with chemicals in them could well cause some issues especially just after 9/11, I'd braced myself for a full strip search....and worse!
Anyway we walked through customs without being stopped and my other half said that she saw my shoulders drop with the relief of getting through, obviously so did the armed officers as they called us back! What followed was a quite stressful 10 minutes explaining things to the officials with two large armed US police officers overseeing everything.
Satisfied that we were not terrorists they let us through but then the large female officer stopped my other half again. Not for further examination but to explain that she had also been through cancer and everything would be OK. She then gave her a hug. I don't think I'll forget the sight of my other half being hugged by a large black female police officer with a semi automatic machine pistol in her other hand. Not all US Police are bad, just like ours aren't either.
Cash as quick as you can, ah remember a few years ago ah got a letter saying ah was due a refund of £401 and then less than a week later got a letter saying ah owed them £412.
so thanks for the advice peeps yeah it seems going legal would be a bad idea. I will cash the cheque in as soon as I am back in Bournemouth.
I think the £2 thing just annoyed me, I would guess its just an administritive thing and it gives the same letter regardless of the amount eg 50p or £5000 etc. I think I just imagine some destitute couple really struggling and getting that letter and been proper stressed about it and then going through a long call to agree to 17p a month repayment plan and then stressing finding that 17p each month. I am then left thinking why it wont make a difference to anything and why put people like that through that. Then letting the billionaires off.
To me £2 is nothing but what if it had been more say like £3000 I always worked for other people, I have never had a taxable side income so its never been my fault if my tax is wrong. to only be given to march to find that money does not seem reasonable (I mean if it was £3000 not the £2 it actually is)
I have thought about setting up my own youtube channel, at some point I think then processing my own tax would be an issue.
