The Christmas period

DoublemeDoubleme Member Posts: 2,206
Its that time of year again and at my girlfriends folks, no work to worry about she is sleeping beside me in her old childhood room whilst I sit here bored of Warcraft 2 (its a bit awkward to play on a laptop with no mouse and it through browser extention thingy)

every year I look forward to one thing mainly up here the Olympia cafe they really do a great breakfast. They are only ever open to 2pm so its just breakfast and Lunch. Recently when we went to the christmas market in bournemouth town we stopped by the moon in the square weatherspoons. When you add up the cost of coffee tea drinks and the breakfast it comes to a very similiar price to the Olympia.

However comparing the two gets interesting results. the Moon in the Square weatherspoons pub generally looks very nice inside modern clean well decorated, and is in a good location. However there food is basi I wont say crud but its clearly a cheap no frills breakfast its not so much that I think their ingredients come from ASDA Smart Price bacon and sausages, no they wont dare incur those sort of expenses, I do not know where they get their ingredients from but it is clearly the cheapest of the cheap. They also make a point of giving you as little as they can get away with. Pretty sure if they could get away with it they would take remains of uneaten suasages of peoples plates and grind them into new suasages for reheating whilst retaining the baked beans and mushrooms and grafting bacon bits together for reheating if they could, I am not saying they do do this, I am pretty sure they dont my point is that the food is so basic and cheapscaped that if they could get away with this in terms of legally and publicity I think they actually would.
You are effectively paying for the location of the place and decor inside.

The Olympia in Margate is like its polar opposite it looks like it has seen better day windows with cracks in the windows an interior that looks like it hasnt been renovated in decades in a rough area you are not paying for the decor or the location here. However when you get the breakfast you get a standard that would be expected if Beerus from dragonball was real and he came here for breakfast ready to destroy the planet if he was not satisfied. Had the governments done the research of every place on earth for breakfast they may well have Chosen the Olympia with what clearly are prime quality ingredients expertly cooked to perfection. M&S have adverts saying this isnt just .... this is M&S food. Well the Olympia could do that advert saying this isn't M&S food its way better quality ingredients then that. Not sure what people prefer better decor and location but basic crud breakfast or bad decor and bad location but world class food. I however always look forward to coming up this way for the Olympia breakfast which I call the pride of Thanet and my girlfriend always gets dragged there with me every time we are up this way.

Note food is better quality then it appears in the picture and also Olympia dont skim you on the sausages like other places so there would be more then one sausage.

Of course sometimes it is important to remember what Christmas is all about, every year me and my girlfriend go to the Bournemouth Christmas market and get some of the christmas presents for each other we come together split off for some time period so we can buy each other things from the christmas market without the other seeing for christmas then remeet up. This is the point of Christmas personified right there, its not in that religious nonsense, or the coming together with loved ones no its about successfuly guessing what to get other people and also getting what you want.

This year I came across A cowboy hat at the Christmas market when we were looking together and it really suited me and felt comfortable.

I wanted to get for myself but remembered way back when I bought myself a DVD set of Family guy and a brother was annoyed at me because he had bought me that and said your not supposed to buy yourself stuff near christmas for that exact reason. So I had to leave the Cowboy hat behind and hope my girlfriend did buy it, the Christmas market is only there until the 1st Jan and we get back on 2nd Jan so if she hasnt got it I lose it. Sure there will be other Cowboy hats but Cowboy hats arent really a big thing with me its just that one specific cowboy hat as it worked with me so well.
So I remain hoping that she gets that this is what is important this Christmas period.

I've just read the post and as always (mostly) it didn't disappoint, I hope @Doubleme gets the Cowboy Hat he craves or there could be a 'Christmas Present' I didn't get post, although I'm quite looking forward to that in a sadistic sort of way.

@Doubleme you do realise that Margate has been subject to gentrification over many years?

'The Olympia in Margate is like its polar opposite it looks like it has seen better day windows with cracks in the windows an interior that looks like it hasnt been renovated in decades in a rough area you are not paying for the decor or the location here.'

It may look and feel like an old original place to have your breakfast but it's all been carefully crafted to feel that way, I'm not denying that the actual food may be outstanding but the surroundings are fake.

A few years ago people from 'Hackney,Shoreditch' etc moved there/bought properties for business and the area was suddenly on the 'Fashionable' list.

Which your girlfriends parents should know about, as for the breakfast, you're not eating a local cafe 'Banger' they're serving artisan sausages and quality produce and that's why it's your best cafe, quality not quantity.

thats the thing about the Olympia though its not just quality over quantity you get both A+ quality and a large quantity of it. I always go for the large breakfast and it usually mostly fills me for the whole day anyway.

My girlfriends family are from the Margate area and it is rough, I have heard plenty from them about this and having stayed here enough times I would say you dont want to be out after dark in this place.

    Have a good Christmas all.

No longer primarily a religious Festival (if it ever was-a lot of it is actually Pagan, rather than Christian).

    Roses are Reddish
    Violets are Bluish
    If it wasn't for Jesus
    We'd all be Jewish ;)

Ok so my girlfriends mother offered to wrape my girlfriends presents i had got her for me (they came up unwraped with me)
and had me proper confused if this was the same stuff I had bought her.

She does it on purpose to create a mystery and has talent so now I cant rule out the Cowboy hat as she would have been involved in the wrapping its just no presents look big enough to be a cowboy hat unless you can fold it without damaging it in which case it could be anything.

@Doubleme I'm more excited to find out your presents than mine but seeing as I live alone and haven't got a present to open myself that doesn't take too much beating... :D

I do hope you get the Cowboy Hat you want and post a Christmas picture either wearing it or having Christmas dinner at the Olympia Cafe...
