UK politics live: Farage backs 'very appealing' Trump plan for US to take over Gaza as Starmer confirms talks

Nigel Farage has welcomed Donald Trump’s plan for the US to take over Gaza and turn the war-torn strip into “the Riviera of the Middle East”.

The deeply controversial proposal for the US to take ownership of Gaza and resettle Palestinians to neighbouring countries was announced by Mr Trump during a press conference with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt have already rejected Trump’s proposal, while Sir Keir Starmer, although refusing to call out the idea at PMQs, has insisted Gazan’s must be allowed home and a two-state solution is the answer to the conflict.

The idea, however, has found support from Reform leader Nigel Farage who has described it as “very appealing”.

Trump cant survive if he goes against Saudi Arabia. Saudi are by far the most powerful country in the world not the USA.

Everyone usually thinks in terms of military power but they forget that financial and diplomatic power count for a lot too. Saudi have their pockets in everything they pretty much own the world media and most of the worlds politicians. If Trump ends up clashing with Saudi Arabia he is finished for better or for worse.

The U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard collectively maintain a combined strength of approximately 1.32 million active duty service members as of September 30, 2024.

The Saudi Arabian army has 257,000 active soldiers, and paramilitary force, which numbers 150,000, an impressive figure for a country which many claim is “dependent” on the US and other allies for its security.

yes its not miliatary power saudi have a straight military fight saudi gets had. But saudi owns pretty much most Us politicians and pretty much the entire us media. They wont take trump out in a military fight. It will be the entire media and nearly every politician gunning for him as they nearly all saudi owned.

theyd effectively have him removed from office. I just dont know if Saudi view Gaza as important enough to them to pull those triggers though. thats the big question how much of a priority is Gaza to Saudi

theyd just have trump removed from office. They have enough influence to do it. Its just if Gaza is enough of a priority to them to do this over and I cant know if it is or isnt.

How exactly would they do that?
When was the last US President removed from office by the press?

    We live in dangerous times.

Trump appears to be using the Israel approach in relation to Iran. Namely-if a terrorist cell within your country commits an atrocity, that means I am entitled to annihilate every innocent person in that country-not just the wrongdoers and their paymasters.

Let's take that to a logical conclusion. There are certainly terrorist cells in the UK. If 1 of them assassinates Trump, do you feel you deserve to be annihilated?

Getting back to Gaza. Yes-it is a bombsite. Why is it a bombsite? Because 1 of the most heavily armed and adept countries in the World has bombed the living sh1te out of it.

Trump's "solution"? To force the oppressed out of their Country. To force other Nations (not Israel) to take in these poor people. And, strangest of all, to expect other nations (who had no part in this) to pay for the rebuild!

To make this announcement-with the person responsible for the mass bombing and killing Netanyahu looking on, grinning approvingly - is just madness.

Do you think they have enough safeguards in place to stop his stupidity?

Senator Says They Are Getting ‘1,600 Calls a Minute’ Amid Trump-Musk Chaos

A Republican senator has revealed that the Senate is being slammed with “1,600 calls a minute” rather than the typical 40 amid the chaos of Donald Trump’s first three weeks in office.
