Considering it's was NYE, traffic was not too bad really. Sky James very wisely knocked the Major on the head & replaced it with something more modest which performed very well indeed.
Starting with that one off NYE Main, top spot went to @oloeoleolewhich is not spelt how you think it is. He was also 2nd in 7 @ 7 so he finished 2023 in grand style. Been here almost 8 years & last night's Main was far & away their biggest score, though fair to say very low volume, less than 300 MTT's lifetime. @luckylad13 single-tabled their way to 2nd place. In 3rd was @limp2lose just 24 hours after winning UKOPS 20 for over £1,600.
@BeachBody took the Mini & that's the 4th Mini they've won, the best of which was an Avenger. All-time best result was 3rd in a 2021 Sunday Major. @letemspin- ended the year nicely by finishing 2nd. They started it well too, taking down one of those Stack Builder Freerolls for £2,700. In 3rd was @jawzindawz who used to play much bigger stakes, & won two Super Rollers in 2014 for a combined £14,000.
@STAR99 was playing for the first time since Christmas Eve, & began the day by running 5th in a mid-afternoon £300 BH, then did much better by winning 7 @ 7. Only other thread mention was on December 23rd, when 2nd to @Gigitygoon in the £1k BH.
It's 3 weeks since we saw @LESLEYGO4 on the MTT streets, but a surprise re-appearance last night ended with 1st place in Mega.
On a purely personal note, my favourite result last night was my old PLO8 sparring partner @eon1961 winning Sheriff. And here's a little-known but tall story about him, he came to a UKPC at DTD once, & it turns out he is 6'-11" tall. Who even knew? 2nd to @eon1961 was anoher old mate, @WOW1tsANDY.
On 27th December, just a few days ago, @sage13signed up to Sky Poker since when they have played 4 DYM's, winning half of them. Last night they made their MTT debut in 9 @ 9 - & won it. That's the way to get started. Seems like sage is a wise one.
@Itstime single-tables the £1,000 Rebuy BH more often than not, & took 1st place last night. Every time I see his alias I can't help but do a little Bruce Buffer impression, which gets longer every time I do it.
Quite an interesting perspective to last night's UKUPS traffic. Of the 6 events, 5 of them covered, although fair to say most of them only just got over the line. The exception - & it was a huge exception - was the non BH Mega, which had a £3k guarantee & missed by a whopping £780. As you will know, every now & then folks come on the Forum & bemoan the amount of BH's & complain that they want non BH "vanilla" MTT's. The facts don't lie though, there are very few vanilla MTT's on Sky Poker these days for good reason, the vast majority of players prefer BH's. We might not like that, but it's just how it is. And of course, BH's mean players lose their money less quickly, which helps the poker ecology. I was thinking the other day, running a poker site must be like being a bus driver where all the passengers are back seat drivers, & all of whom have different opinions on how to drive. There was a bloke who phoned in on TalkSport last week complaining that the Man U players were not fit, so the Presenter asked the bloke if he plays football, & without a moment's hesitation the fella says "me?, no chance, I'm 18 stone"..... The next caller then comes on & complains that Ange Postecoglou (Spurs Manager) stands still on the touchline &, to use his exact words "could not motivate a tin of tuna". So the presenter says "well to be fair, I'm not sure anyone in the world could motivate a tin of tuna!", but it went right over the caller's head & he just prattled on.
OK, on we go, & it was good to see the Main get over the g'tee line, & even better to see @gez_bear get the win. Won his seat in a £24 satellite, & went home with over £3,300. How good must Mr Bear feel this morning? It capped a decent month for him as he's won both Turbo & Quickdraw in the last 4 weeks. The result was no surprise, he has at least 20 cashes of over £1,000, though many of them were in his heyday, between 2010 to 2015. I also seem to recall that in 2015 he won the Main two nights on the spin, which is a real rarity. His best result of course was winning a Vegas package in 2015, & I know he really enjoyed that experience. 2nd last night was @Natnug who you know all about, ditto @Granite89 in 4th. In 3rd was a name that not many MTT-ers will recognize, @jackl and that's because 98.5% of his play is in the cash games. However, he's very good at both formats and if he chose to play more MTT's (he 1 tabled & it was only his 5th MTT this month) he'd do very well imo. Somehow @THETANK was 6th despite not taking a single head prize.
The Mini was the best-performing event of the night, & it was @1317 who ran out the winner. Has won the big Sunday night BH when it was both £8k & £6k guarantees, but his best ever performance was 1st place for over £3,000 in a 2017 "£15,000 B/Hunter Champion HR W4", and I' have to admit I can't even recall what that was all about. As Minis go, even UKOPS Minis, last night was a ridiculously high class FT, with @1317 being followed home by @Jscorgie@roddy28@ribeiro66@ozzieowen & @bromley04. With Burnley turning over The Blades, it's been a good weekend for the Bromley's.
In the evening's opener @mp561030took top spot. Only played 204 MTT's here & you may recall that less than 2 months ago he won the opening High Roller in the Autumn UKOPS, so from 204 MTT's he's already got 2 UKOPS titles. In that High Roller @roddy28 was 7th, last night he got a lot closer, eventually having to settle for 2nd. He was also 3rd in last night's Mini, so we don't have to feel too sorry for the surprisingly likeable Scot.
The Mega, residing on the Naughty Step as explained in my little rant at the start of today's missive, went to serial winner @bigfatfishbut one might argue that the performance by @coo1-um to finish 2nd was quite outstanding. He is very prudent with his bankroll & has an ABI of less than £3, so that's quite a result. In 4th was @snoxx11 who won almost an identical amount for finishing 2nd in Reload.
The Turbo was a real high class FT with @Doooobs getting the nod ahead of @ChipDiddy0@nslater112@destinycod@Fabraclass & the very much in-form @lwwl. Two notable things here, @Doooobs played the "regular" Turbo parallel with the UKOPS won, & won both. As rare "across-the-card" doubles go, that's a doozy. And even better, in one of them an opponent claimed @Doooobs was "braindead" for calling & winning the hand with 7-2, "the worst hand in poker" as his opponent described it. Trouble is, it was Dooobs (BB) who did the betting & his opponent who did the calling... Whoops.
A stunning result in the Hyper which went to @Pinkbaby72 who only joined us last week & has played exactly 2 MTT's, the Day 1 UKOPS Mini (no good), & last night's Hyper. P2, W1, then.
That's it for today. Tonight sees £67,000 in UKOPS guarantees, which is a lot for Sky Poker. Eek.
GL if you get involved, but please be careful with that bankroll.
You have to wonder what the logic was behind putting a concrete wall at the end of a runway. In this case it looks like a bird strike may have led to loss of hydrolics and a wheels up landing at high speed, sadly despite the best efforts of the crew it didn't end well. It's not been a good week for air travel with this and the Russians accidentally shooting another passenger plane down.

And yes, it was definitely a "gear up" landing, as can be clearly seen on the videos, though there is even some speculation that he was intending to go-around. (I don't buy that).
The PPRUNE thread runs to 6 or 7 pages already, & includes a video of the gear-up landing, though mercifully the video has been edited to remove the final moments.
Think I can safely say I haven't won two MTTs starting at the same time on the same site before. Almost missed one of them too, as didn't join the normal turbo originally. Only joined as got beaten up in others.
I checked after and i didn't put anything in pre flop with 72 off then I think it was a 7 on flop. Small bet check call flop. Then I bet the 2 turn and jammed river. He was going on a bit after... FWIW for budding 72 off players, I had J3 off in the big blind in another and a J83 flop did for me Vs 88. Do not try this at home.
On the landing, do not look on twitter if you don't want to see it. It is everywhere on my feed. Can't really avoid watching deaths daily on that site these days.
