This day last year
"The wind was howling & Storm Isha was in full flow, which helped contribute to a very solid set of numbers. Online poker loves bad weather. The £12,000 Major hit £14,100, the £6k BH £6,930, £1,000 Sheriff £1,750, & £1,000 Quickdraw came in at exactly double it's guarantee. Everything else did well too, though Mini Major missed, as per.
@Gigitygoon raised a few eyebrows by winning the Sunday Major. Has an ABI of £6.73 & these days plays £5 events almost exclusively. Had a good night on Wednesday, winning 9 @ 9 &, crucially, a Sunday Major seat in the Freeroll, & ending up winning the Major & taking home £3,948. Biggest previous win here? £538 for winning a Sheriff in 2019. Could not be more pleased for gigity. He also ran 5th in the £1k BH, which is much nearer his usual run-rate. Was followed home by the heavy brigade, with @Kahuna96 2nd, Major specialist @jordz16 3rd, @Thoich 5th & @Swog 6th. Great performance to run 4th by @Dingle1234. Down in 19th was a player with the alias @BillyPckle & if the rumours I hear are correct, he won over $100,000 on 'Stars exactly a week earlier. vive la difference
The Mini went to a newbie, @xGeemanx who first played just 4 days ago. Posted on the Forum that was having problems with being logged out but seems to have adjusted quickly to the various Sky Poker foibles & registered their maiden featured MTT win. WP, gg etc. Runner-up was @Thoich & as he was 5th in the Main he gets £250 from the FTJ kitty. That's two nights on the bounce FTJ has paid out. 3rd was @MAXALLY for his best cash since May of last year, & by a strange coincidence, he was also 3rd in the Mini Major on 12th November, collecting an identical payout on each occasion. 4th was Dazzy @thedazzman with @FeNdeR36 in 5th.
The £6,000 BH was taken down by @duonross, & it was very much a D-rated Final, with @duonross 1st @dom1105 2nd @Drumcrow 3rd @destinycod 5th & even the FT bubbler got in on the act, @Drewett. Variance comes in all shapes & forms.
Was a pleasant surprise to see @BIGSHANN in the winner's circle for the £1k BH. Used to be a big time player here in the late noughties & often came along to the early SPT's.
@aynaricol bounced right back to form, 1st in the Rebuy BH for £335, won £110 by qualifying for a Sunday Major seat in the Freeroll, was 4th in the 19.45 £1K BH for ~£60, & cashed in Stack Builder Freeroll for the 2nd week running, £95 this time. Those are impressive numbers considering her ABI is less than a fiver.
In the Stack Builder Freeroll, @Bean81@Arrogant & @cabbaz. The 6 Finalists all had starting stacks of either 3,000 or 6,000.
@shad8604 has been doing well lately, & came up trumps with 1st place in Mega.
After taking that new £500 BH middle of last week, @bakersdoze won Sheriff last night, so his luck seems to be turning.
@Gooner1961 will have enjoyed the weekend, Arsenal won 5-0, & he won last night's MidEx.
There were some real tough FT's last night, but arguably the toughest was Turbo, where @destinycod took 1st place ahead of the likes of @StayOrGo @loololollo @NChanning & @bigfatfish.
7 @ 7 went to @cash123 , best result being an Avenger Main back in 2017, but seems to mainly play more modest stakes these days.
I think that'll have to do for today, more waffle than enough there."
MTT traffic looked set for a solid night with the £5k Main making £6,300 & the £1,500 Mini £1,910 but tailed off as the evening progressed, with Sheriff only just covering, & then Turbo & Quickdraw missing by a combined £210.
@Dharma94 who won Sharpy Main has quite an unusual profile. Seems only to play Main Events & even those only intermittently. This was just their 2nd appearance in 2025 & 8th since August. Made the Final of a Mini Sharpy last May, & another FT in Avenger Main a year or so earlier. Very profitable though, if we simply look at ROI. Runner-up was @FAS with the ultra-prolific @Frankson8 in 3rd. It was far & away the best result @Frankson8 has had in his short poker "career" easily eclipsing the ~£190 he earned for winning a 9 @ 9 six weeks ago. He's nothing if not enthusiastic & for that alone I'm really pleased for him. Like everyone, I have opinions on most things & if I could give him poker advice it would be "less is more". Off an ABI of less than £5 he currently leads the 2025 Sky Poker Scheduled "Count" with almost double the amount played of the player in 2nd place. Most of his volume is in All-In Sats which are of course pure luck, however, there IS a logic to playing them IF they overlay. If they don't overlay & you play them in high volume, you are probably setting fire to money. Sometimes - very often actually - less is more. He is making decent money, but that's not the point, as recreationals we should be enjoying the view & the journey. Fortunately, he'll not take any notice of any old **** giving him advice. Talking of old ****, I'm reminded that @HAYSIE made yet another Main Event FT, 5th this time.
In the Mini, 1st place went to @lychloe who was playing here for the first time in a week & only 4th time this year. On Tuesday @jt454 was 2nd in Turbo, & last night he was 2nd in Mini. Wonder if he considers himself lucky, or unlucky?
The £800 BH went to @kettle9930 for his 3rd win of 2025 & it was easily his biggest so far this year. Back in the day was a big winner here & took down several televised Turbo Opens, as well as success in UKOPS. Has also been 2nd & 5th in Sunday Majors & 2nd in a Summit.
@cazabra won a 9 @ 9 last April, their only featured MTT win until securing their second win last night in it's baby bro, 7 @ 7.
Since joining us 4 months ago @BigPhil100 had not registered any wins but had twice made the podium in UKOPS events, that all changed last night with 1st place in Mega, and a little later he ran 2nd in MidEx.
@untsp0k3r has barely played in their 15 years here but has started to notch up results recently, and 1st place in last night's 9 @ 9 was far & away a PB.
@SLANLEAT is a £1k Rebuy BH specialist with 3 FT's including 1 win in the last month, but he changed tack last night & took Reload.
Hard to think of a player in better form right now than @AWOKEN who won Quickdraw last night, that's the 2nd time in 8 night's he's done so & he's now made 6 or 7 Featured MTT tables already in 2025.
Last summer @SPRING29 sprung a surprise by winning a Marksman Main from @Steed432 & @PKRPar since when they've been a little quiet, but spring back into the limelight last night with a MidEx victory.
That's me done for today. It's the UKPC Festival at DTD & I'm off to play the £200 "Opener" with a 1pm start. What a way to spend a winter Sunday.
