This day last year

"There was quite a buzz on the site last night with mostly solid numbers. The £6k Main made a healthy £7k & the £1k MidEx fell 1 entry short of double the guarantee. On the flip side, that new £400 PLO did terribly, just 19 entries & 6 rebuys. A £150 overlay on a £400 guarantee is just not sustainable imo. Sad but true.

Quote a surprise in the Main as @kernow28 takes the top spot. Just 8 MTT's in the last 2 years, & this was their first MTT since November. Only prior thread mention was 7th in a Sunday Major all the way back in January '22. In 2nd place was @Ironpump1 who seems to play MTT's in snatches despite which he does OK. From very low volume he's already won a Mega & a £1k BH this year. Jumps back & forth between Cash & MTT's I suspect, & seems to do well in both. In 4th was @Dingle1234 who won a recent Sheriff & seems to do well in the Sunday Major Freeroll.

@AdamSD91 1-tabled the Mini & took the win. Previous form includes a UKOPS & a MidEx. In 5th & making his 2nd FT in a matter of days was @Jac35. Played just 2 MTT's finishing 13/110 & 5/457, alongside which he had a big & successful DYM session which included an eleven Streak I believe. @Brrrrrrr was 6th, he played 2 other MTT's running 8/78 & 17/245 so Pete's running into form by the look of it.

There were two more surprises in Reload & Turbo, with @TamL taking the former & @W1B the latter.

In the Quickdraw I was very pleased to see @DOHHHHHHH take the win, I much miss his forum presence. He's a cash game player really (or was), & in fact this was his 3rd best result all time, & best since 2017. There's life in the old @DOHHHHHHH yet.

24 hours after taking down the Mini, @mysteryreg was in the winner's enclosure again, this time for the new £500 BH.

The rise & rise of @NOSTRI continues apace. Played just 3 MTT's, winning two of them (£1k BH & MidEx) and finishing 4th in the £1k Rebuy BH. The Rebuy BH also saw @mumsie continue his improvement, finishing 5th. He has a big win in him I think, already this year he's made the FT of the Mini 4 times, finishing 4th, 4th, 5th & 6th.

@claudel9 had another decent night making three FT's -6th in the £1k BH, 2nd in 7 @ 7 & 5th in 9 @ 9.

@belrope chimed in with a win too, taking down the 7 @ 7.

@Snowski is more than able at both 4 card Omaha formats & he ran out the winner of the PLO. He's amongst the better players in the nightly PLO8 too. 4th was @NChanning following his 2nd place last week, plus of course those back-to-back wins in the High-Low version. He seems able to adapt to most formats with ease.

The chat box in the nightly £200 PLO8 can get salty to say the least, which is all a bit sad imo, but it would have been a lot better last night, with a 1-2 of @weecheez1 & @tomgoodun, not forgetting @HENDRIK62 in 6th place.

The SPT Brighton satellites did well again, with @Woz08 & @Brebion getting seats, & @hitchslap taking £150 in cash for 3rd. All 3 of them appear to have logged on specifically to win seats for Brighton.

MTT Numbers were somewhat frothy, not unusual for a winter's Friday night, especially as there was no top level domestic football on TV, unless you count Man U v Leicester as "top level".

The £6k Avenger Main topped £7,000 with two quality players 1st & 2nd in @GFKIJKLL & @Awoken respectively. 4th was @bbMike who I was pleased to bump into at the APAT Fessie at DTD last week. I had imagined him to be tall & good-looking, & I was 50% correct. 5th was @purpleaki1 just 5 days after he ran 2nd in the Sunday Major.

@bigg431 who won the Mini is no slouch, back in the day he won a televised PRIMO (around 2014) & a few months later was 3rd in a UKOPS Main, & in 2020 he took down a UKOPS. A most satisfactory day for @Mumfdog who won a middle of the day £300 BH, a seat in Sunday's Major via the nightly Freeroll, then 2nd in Avenger Mini. 4th was @gibbzy who I seem to recall meeting at SPT Brighton a few years ago, hopefully he'll be there again next month.

BWBH was a Big Boys Benefit, with @Steed432 leading the way home ahead of @StayOrGo @ozzieowen @GFKIJKLL @Han94x & the mighty @Tedson. A stunning evening for @Steed432 as he only played 4 MTT's & won 2 of them - BWBH & Turbo.

Two years ago today I wrote this...


"The opener went to @hifi. Crikey, there's an old-fashioned term, "hifi", back in the day it was all the rage & we had huge great "hifi sound systems", great big things almost like a piece of furniture, now we get all the music we want on smartphones. Doubt youngsters even know what "hifi" means."






Which saves me writing anything else about him today, as he won it again last night.


In relative terms almost as good a night for @reefa too, who was 1st in 9 @ 9 & 2nd in it's baby bro, the 7 @ 7.

@AldosSnow is a real 7 @ 7 specialist & won it again last night. Has other strings to his bow though, won an Avenger Mini three years ago almost to the day.

Decent session for @Tsaaaar who won the Rebuy BH, ran deep in Avenger Mini for a nice bit of profit, & was 3rd in a £500 BH. Has notched up several Mains & Minis, the best of which was winning a boomlet Hitman Main with a £10,000 guarantee that paid nearly £2,000 to 1st place.

@davtherav has had a dream start to 2025, winning last night's Mega, having already won a Mini Major, a Rebuy BH & ran 3rd in a Main.

And finally....

Bit of a mystery to close the report. Several reports came in last night of a player who lost his mind & wrote a stream of profanity-laden invective in every MTT he played, all of which were relative small-ball stuff, I mean he just went nuts. Mr Channing @NChanning was on one of his tables & wrote this wonderfully understated reply....


"do you think you might be slightly overeacting to losing a couple of hands in a £10 tournament?"

These sort of things are a complete mystery to me. Shouty guy is a small-ball player, not a "winner" in any sense, (both of which are fine, & normal) & yet every time he plays he gets himself into a right lather & ends up abusing everyone. He's recreational. Its his hobby, & yet he can't handle even a whiff of adversity. I get that he's clearly not got the mental fortitude for poker, fair enough, but why would you keep persisting with a hobby that a) costs you a lot of money & b) in which you can't deal with losing? If I did not enjoy, say, going to the Pub, or fishing, or golfing, I'd just quit. And yet this poor soul just gets himself in a right state every single time he plays. I can't begin to offer an explanation, except perhaps addiction?

Meh, makes no sense to me. I'm not even sure if I should feel sorry for him either.
