The Procurement Files

There is a Twitter/X account that has been spreading on Social Media over the past week or so. It details where Government money is being spent, how much and to whom. It seems legit although you can't be too sure with AI and Russian bots nowadays.

The following is what I've copy & pasted from a Facebook post that keeps getting shared to peoples pages.

The site is https://x.com/procurementfile

There’s a site on Twitter/X called The Procurement Files (@procurementfile if you’re on the site).

It publicises the Govt contracts awarded all round the world using our taxpayer money.

It’s utterly incredible.

It’s actually unbelievable in some cases yet they are all real, all documented & all true.

I’m gonna copy & paste just 10 examples of some of them below….

PS number 10 is a belter! 😳🤷‍♂️

My favourite one so far is TFL awarding £16 million to a taxi firm to ensure their employees get to work on time!

Sorry. I don't really care about this sort of stuff.

Is there massive amount of waste? Of course. Always has been. Always will be.

That Nairobi one looks suspiciously like fake news. As an example, it claims that this contract is suitable for SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises). Really? A £1.4 Billion contract?

Forgive me for being cynical, but this was all done under the last Tory Govt. And we are expected to believe that the current Govt didn't seize on it?

If we care to look with both eyes, rather than with an agenda/narrative, most of these stories are not quite as "sensational" as they seem. The problem is, many folks WANT to take the stories at face value, do the finger-pointing thing, & register outrage.

If we take this one as an example....

2/ The UK taxpayer paid £499,649 to buy 15 Electric Porsches for the British Embassy in Tirana- to be donated to Albanian Prisons. ‘Part of a drive to net zero.. the required vehicles should be delivered at once’
Contract awarded to Porsche Albania by the FCDO

(Fails to mention the 22 MiniBuses also being supplied).

Which is true. But also fails to mention the other side of the story. In return, the UK Government send back to Albania 200 Albanian Prisoners currently serving sentences in UK Prisons.

It cost ~£55,000 per year per prisoner to keep them locked up here, & the average sentence of those 200 Albanian prisoners is 5 years. So it will save (200 x £55,000 x 5 ) = £5,200,000. Minus the £1,500,000 for the vehicles.

Suddenly, with more facts at our disposal, the picture looks very different.

All of the facts I have stated can easily be verified in a few clicks, but folks only want to see one side of the coin.

And if we look at the TFL - Taxi Contract, many TFL Staff have to report to their Train Tram or Bus Depot BEFORE the services start running each morning, & the reverse at night. How do those staff get to work/get home if they don't own a car? It's like the old "how does the snow plough driver get to work?" riddle. NB; TFL employ approximately 27,000 staff. Worth noting also that TfL is an exceptionally efficient organisation, & that they have reduced their head-count every year for the last 4 years. I don't know the facts of this Taxi Contract - nor do any of us - but I've no reason to suppose that TfL have suddenly started giving money away un-necessarily when they have a history of efficiency. Why would they? I agree, that 16 milly SOUNDS a lot of money, but when you break it down in how many staff, how many days/weeks/months/journeys etc, the number begins to make much more sense.

We can debate the exact details, some may be right, some may be wrong, it does not really matter, the important thing is to have access to ALL the facts, not just one side of the story. And then make a judgement. That's what I prefer to do, anyway.

I don't have the time or interest to check all of the stories, but I'd bet good money there's a sensible & logical explanation for each one.

At some point the populace needs to stop just hating everyone including the leaders they elected and the civil servants who have the weight of juggling diplomacy, efficiency and morality on their shoulders.

This absurd merry go round of 'we need a new leader' into 'this new leader is useless, get him out' is staring all the ignorant in the face but they continue the status quo.

They keep mentioning "to one supplier".

In the case of that High Commission refurbishment Contract, that's how major construction works in every country in the world. A Turnkey Contract goes to a Main or Management Contractor, & they, using their expertise, sub-contract the specialist packages to the various trades - reinforced concrete, brickwork, cladding, groundworks, drainage, glazing, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, sanitary, plastering, painting, flooring, electricity, lighting & so on. ONE Turnkey or Management Contractor awards & synchronises all the sub-contracts. There's no other way to do it. The Client NEVER does this. EVER. The Client awards the Contract to a SINGLE Main or Management Contractor.

    @kapowblamz

    THIS THIS AND THIS.

    Bravo Kappy.

There is SO much negativity, hate & finger-pointing.

Everyone (well most) wanted Boris out, then, once we'd had Dolly Dewdrop & Mr Sunak, they want Starmer out.

Get Starmer out, & after the usual two week Media honeymoon, they'll want his replacement out...

    Meh.

I think some people are missing the point.
It doesn't matter how contracts are awarded, etc.
It's more to do with what tax payers money is being spent on.
If this information was being reported on the BBC, Sky, etc there would be uproar from the tax paying public.

Just to be clear, I didn't start this thread as an anti Starmer, Labour, Conservative, Sunak etc post. I posted it as like I said in the OP, the twitter/X account is gathering momentum on Social Media with the posts being shared more and more.
