Does anybody use Linux ?.

rabdenirorabdeniro Member Posts: 4,533
Am thinking of moving over to Linux from Windows, ma PC is about 15 years old and I can't put windows 11 on it, I know there is a work around to do it but Windows might shut it down.
I only use the PC for reading papers, e-mails, betting and sometimes poker, is Linux stable and secure ?.

Linux is more secure than Windows. It has a net of open source developers and multiple failsafes to fall back on so there's a chain of trust. Because it's open source everyone is privy to vulnerabilities which actually makes it more secure.

That said, it's pretty hard to get infected on either operating system these days even if you try.

You can use WINE to run a lot of Windows apps.

Am going to give it a go next week, the only problem ah have is if ah switch ma PC off it takes an age to boot up and with Linux you have to switch your PC off and on when you put a new app on.

I do believe there is a way of having a dual boot, so Linux can run from USB at startup and you still have Windows should you decide Linux isn't for you.

I should have a go too.

Found a site" distrosea.com "which lets you see the look and feel of lots of distros to help decide which one to download.

Pumped for Zoran o/s, downloaded it, burned the iso on to a disk, keep the disc in and it automatically boots Zoran.
Going to play about with it for a week to see what it's like :# .
