Phil "The Power" Taylor - Darts Champion to Poker Champion

Phil Taylor will soon retire from darts - what could he do? Is is it possible for the worlds greatest darts player to become the worlds greatest poker player?

What are the Darts & Poker comparisons? Lets start with the easy ones:

Commitment, Dedication, Practice
Learn from your mistakes
Believe you can win even when you are behind
Percentages - always good to know in darts and poker
Highest Checkout - 170 or a royal flush
Getting a Double - Always handy in darts and when you are low stacked in poker
Consistency - This is always needed to win the tourny or make it to the final table or cash prizes

The aim of the game in MTTs is to knock each player out until you are down to the final two or heads up, so this comparison can also be made in darts and poker.

Taking a Break
When things haven't gone too well in the first session don't panic, darts and poker players always have a short break, this is where you can go and refresh yourself, cool down and get yourself together. I have seen many darts players go to a break 4-1 down and come back to win the next 4 legs.

Get to know your opponents
Darts and poker players alike have their own unique style of play - Tight Players, Loose Players, Fast Players, Slow Players, Good Players, Bad Players, Arrogant Players and i'm too good to be in the same tourny as you players. Oh and don't forget the Passing Comment Players - Don't let your game be effected by who your playing against. Learn their strengths and their weaknesses and try to use it against them.

Concentration
All great darts players and poker players have an ability to concentrate. Don't be put off by what's around you. Concentration is a key element to any darts or poker game. The environment, the crowd, the television, can have a dramatic effect on your game of darts or poker, you need to concentrate on the only thing in the room thats important to your game - The Table - The Darts Board.

Better Luck Next Time
Take defeat gracefully in darts and in poker
Don't let defeat effect your next performance
Go back to the practice board before moving on to the next level.

Variance

Bad Beats - Bad Darts
You Hit Some - You Miss Some
You Win Some - You Lose Some
Variance will always beat you - You will never beat variance

Today You Played Like A Champion - Tomorrow You Could Be One!

Are there any other sports that have similar comparisons to poker? and do you really think Phil "The Power" Taylor could become Phil "The Poker" Player?

Perhaps Sky could ask him to be a guest on the show one night to see if the power has the poker.

    Lol @ Phil.

How True Phil - Mind you with Poker, you don't need to get into a boxing ring - It's quiet possible just to beat yourself up lol.

He is a decent player already int he? - He played the 6 seater tourny format a few years ago, I remember him flopping a flush against a flush first hand once and busting....But he had decent results I think?

What could he do when he retires?

Divorce his wife and enjoy his fortune?
