SUNGLASSES

From this week’s edition of ‘The Rail’…

“The sunglasses-at-the-poker-table debate has raised its head again, courtesy of Daniel Negreanu.

“In a recent blog, he revealed that players in the new US TV show ‘The Big Game’ are banned from wearing shades – a move he fully supports.

“In fact, he’d like to see the ban extended to ALL televised events.”

Daniel believes that no player should hide like a chicken behind sunglasses.  He thinks they’re bad for poker and that the game wouldn’t be on TV if everyone wore hoodies and sunglasses to hide their eyes.

Now, it’s time for you to have your say.  Please post your thoughts below and answer this question…

I obv have to, as it is, like Bono, a trademark!  :)

I don't mind either way, if people want to hide like a sissy girl thats up to them. I have tried wearing shades before because I get really bad headaches in long live games, but it didnt help so I stopped.

Depends how cool they look wearing them.

Is it Greg Raymer who has them lizard ones?

Anyway, I always wear my sunglasses while playing online.

I wear prescription sunglasses (sort of) - am I banned?

If so, I might try the Alex Higgins' doctor's note method for wearing an open-neck shirt while playing snooker.

I think that anyone wearing sunglasses in a casino or card room (or anywhere indoors), should be systematically rounded up and garotted with cheese wire. If that sounds a little too dranconian, then I'm prepared to accept that their calf muscles get whipped with stinging nettles – but that's a minimum.

On the other hand, I'm not particularly happy to endorse a a dictatorial society that enforces rulings upon the proletariat – especially if the offenders aren't really causing any harm.

For this reason, I have maintained my position as being totally useless to this forum, by (a) not voting, and (b) stating nothing of consequence.

Perhaps we could reach a compromise, whereby all players must wear a monocle? Unless they don't want too.

Vote for me at the next election, whenever that is.

I clicked on this poll/thread fully intending to vote as I really thought I'd have a "polarised" standpoint on this issue.

However, that masterful post by FlutNush has convinced me to stand firmly in the middle of this "spectacular" debate.

Reminds me of a Society we once tried to get going at College ..... The Apathetic Society ..... but the turnouts just weren't quite good enough to warrent getting the tea and biscuits in.

At the time we blamed an ill-advised font used in the posters.

FlutNush you should definitely consider standing at the next election, particularly as I understand you can also opt to sit down during much of the process which can go on into the early hours.

I don't wear shades at the table (mostly because i look like a tool in them) but i don't want to see them banned

I can understand why Daniel would as he is SO good at reading people that this could be nothing but an advantage to him - Sometimes thought the shades make the man lol - Look at fossil man, those shade made him larger than life at the WSOP and not because people couldn't read him. They must of been quite intimidating to be starred down by lol

Nothing  wrong with wearing  dark or tinted glasses, as long as you can see your cards when you look down in a darkened casino  card-room .. ...

Big  advantage is you can look at players  for tells with out them knowing your staring at them, also I don't know if I'd want to  be staring  at some big  hairy  lummox .. with tattooed forearms like Popeye's without my ' dark bin's' on  ..

So for me it's  wear the Dark glasses to get all the help  you can at the tables, .....

Anybody who wears sunglasses indoors (apart from medical reasons) should be summarily executed!!

    That is all.

Blimey... Gordon Brown's minced out in a huff and gone off to Her Madge for a pint of Darjeeling!

In an unprecedented step, Number 10 is currently vacant, and we are rudderless with no decided leader. Apparently, Nick Clegg upset Gordon by stating that his Mum did questionable things with a multitude of other chaps.

Look, the long and the short of it is; I could catch a train over there now and nip in through the back door, then just claim squatters rights (I reckon it will take a year for them to get me out).

So, stinging nettles are in, and we've got a hung vote on the whole sunglasses issue. Is there anything else we need addressing whilst I'm holding the reins?
