Talking about your hand

iv noticed a lot of people like to tell you what cards they "have" before the flop been dealt etc

Obviously they are trying to get a reaction from you so they can maybe work out what your holding or trying to gain advantage in the hand before any chips even been bet.

In the past i have seen sites warn people that do this

your thoughts please .....

Peace

I think it's REALLY bad form. Also see people who are not involved in the hand say "oh I folded such-and-such" which is not right when other players are still in the hand.

I PERSONALLY HATE THIS AND IF I SEE IT ON MY TABLE I ASK THEM NOT TO DISCUSS THE HAND UNTIL THE HAND HAS FINISHED! PLAYED A MTT THE OTHER DAY, AND SOME PLAYER SAID THAT HE FOLDED 66 WHEN THE BOARD HAD COME 7845... WIV THE RIVER STILL TO GO!!!! I HAD ALREADY TRIED A BLUFF ON THIS STREET AND THEREFORE MY OPPONENT CALLED WIV MID PAIR!!!! I ASKED HIM TO NOT SAY ANYTHING WHEN A HAND IS IN PROGRESS... HE JUST WENT "LOL" AND "HAHAH"... IN A LIVE GAME HE WOULD BE SENT TO THE RAIL AND HAVE SOME PENALTY... MY ADVICE IS MAKE A NOTE OF THESE PLAYERS AND LET OTHERS KNOW...

    Hi

Yup it is really bad form, and is just not done trying to gain an unfair advantage.

I wonder if sky are aware it is happening? and whether they will take action? think I will have a look on the site to see if it says anything.

Right I have just been looking on the site, and it is part of poker etiquette and is counted as an unfair advantage, If this happened on my table, I would inform the offender that this should not be done and request they to stop.

If they continue, then I would inform Sky what they are doing.

i dont think any player does this to gain an advantage on here ,if it happens just remind them of the rules ,i think its more of friendly banter but if they continue thay should be warned, ps i have aces...................i wish.. b lukky

Agree with everything said on this subject... v.bad to discuss a hand you had when play is continuing with other players still in the hand... there should be some sort of punishment for this imo... I don't know how this would be done thou...?!

However, for example, when playing certain players I am familiar with, and it becomes HU with them... I make a raise and then a big re-raise comes in over the top, then sometimes I do say... AJ is no good then...!? So I do talk about the hand I have... however in a different manner to that discussed in this thread...

I never find this to be a problem online, this happens a lot more live IMO. Infact, it is pretty pointless doing it online, because nobody is going to type "*is worried because Player A says he folded this and now I have no outs*" in the chatbox so you're never going to get a reaction, at least not during the hand. If it is happening online, just give them a gentle reminder of the rules and if it persists have a word with one of the Sky staff.

In many live casinos if you say what your hand is, and then when you get to showdown it appears that you have the hand you claimed to have, then your hand is immediately dead and the pot awarded to the opponent. So Apple if you were to say "AJ no good then?", call, and have the best hand, dilligent dealers will declare your hand dead after saying that. On the rare occasion that I say something to someone during a hand, it's always along the lines of "I can beat this, but not that" so I can't be accused of saying my hand (unless I stupidly say "I can beat AJ but can't beat AK"...

Most of the replies have it spot on - it's rank bad form to type your hand into the Chat-Box.

One high-profile player on here regularly says "I have Kings" or whatever - always a porkie - & thankfully, nobody believes him any more, but that's not the point at all.

It's "not done", & anyone who practices this sort of nonsense soon loses the respect of his opponents, as a player, & a person.

This is not speech play as we know it. It's angle shooting, & it's a moody.

One easy solution.. Turn chat off during a hand your playing if you believe people who say they have a certain hand or have folded a certain hand..

Good luck to them if they have AA when they say that have AA!

    Hi mate,

I would never do it playing in a casino... that for certain...!

But online against players I normally chat to and normally have a bit of banter, we do normally do things like that... and I'll think you'll find quite a few other players do this aswell... and if I say 'AJ no good' I will always fold the hand as I think I can either find a better spot or respect the players re-raise...

one thing about this, that it is very bad eticate to annouce your cards you had after folding them while that particlaur hand is still being played. I will grumble from England if i catch anyone doing this, which they don't and I have never seen, to be fair.

    Hi MrMagooo,
why worry about what not or what to say in the chat box. Dont give anybody the oppourtunity to put the rules to the test, as it could lead to a chat ban.
My advice is to keep you chat, whilst playing light hearted and you will find the other regular players will return the compliment, anything else will be shot down by those same players.
I am not certain but if you say this and you do go to showdown, and you have the bullets then your hand should be mucked and your opponent will win the pot. Now i don't know if this happens online but it would live, because the other players will police it.
