Bad-Beat threads - some of which are spoofs, , are like a time-sponge, they serve no purpose & I would rather stick needles in my eyes than ever listen to another one.
I was a "Live Updater" for many years, all over Europe & in Las Vegas. Break times were purgatory for me, with player after player regaling anyone or everyone their tale of woe.
Even now, at Tourney breaks in Luton, or DTD, I have to go somewhere alone during the Breaks, as the Bad-Beat tales are non-stop.
And when I play Online at Sky Poker, pals will invariably come on the Chat-Box and tell me they have just busted out to a horror beat, & I'm supposed to say "ooh, unlucky mate, what happened then?".
"And so I raised it up...."
"And the flop came...."
"So I bet out, I mean, what other hand can I have here?...."
"You'll never guess what he called me with. Go on, guess......
But yes - I can't explain why - but I did see your thread. "The Worst Bad Beat in History, Ever Ever Ever" sorta thing, a Thread title I have seen 16 quillion trillion times. This month.
And you got me good & proper, because I opened it!
I really wish I could figure out....
1) Why so many love telling Bad-beat Tales,
2) What pleasure they think the recipitent gets from it.
3) How people can be bright enough to play poker for money, but not figure out that it includes huge dollops of luck, & that playing bad players is a good thing! Either I'm daft, or they are. 4/7 the former,I guess, 7/4 the latter.
It was EXACTLY the same when I played a lot of golf. The Locker Rooms - Golf posh-speak for changing rooms - were non-stop bad-beat tales. "So I am 3 under gross, I hit a screamer down the 17th, lovely fade, & guess where, of ALL places, it landed after a bad bounce?".
