I WAS IN A T-O-T SITTING 14TH WHEN ADD-ONS CAME, THEN WENT DOWN TO MID 20ISH, WITH PLAYERS DOING THE ADD-ONS NOW I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY I WAS PLAYING SO DID NOT DO ADD-ON ( ALSO DID NOT HAVE TO REBUY ) BUT FINNISHED 2 OFF THE CASH IN THE END, SO MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I HAVE DONE AN ADD-ON BECAUSE I COULD HAVE ? FINNISHED IN THE CASH, SO ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE GREAT, I HAVE TO ADMIT THOUGH I WAS PLAYING BETTER THAN WHAT I HAVE DONE FOR A WHILE SO KNEW I WOULD PULL BACK BUT NOT DOING AN ADD-ON MAY HAVE COST ME NOT CASHING ??

    Hi Sporny,

It's situation specific, & bankroll specific.

Before rebuying, & especially "Adding-On" you should look at your stack, relative to the Blinds. Without a shadow of doubt, you increase your chances of cashing by Rebuying &/or adding-on. This is a simple & logical fact - more chips relative to others (not all of whom will take up the option) = a better chance.

However, you must also look at the "value", & this is a different sum altogether.

When you start the Tourney, you get 2,500 chips. With Blinds starting (in T-o-T) at 10-20, that is 125 x BB. With the Buy-In at £5.50, that's roughly 22 BB's per £1.

The Add-on becomes available just before the start of Level 6, which is 50-100. So now you only get 25 Big-Blinds for your £5.50. That's only (roughly) 4.5 x BB per £1.

So in one way, it is deffo more cost-efficient to Add-on, as it gives you a better chance relative to those who do not.

In another way, it is LESS cost-efficient to Rebuy, as you can see from the BB per £1 calculation.

Or, put another way, I've no idea. ;)

Personally, I don't often play Rebuys, as I prefer slow freezeouts, but I used to play a lot of them, & I had a rule - ONE Rebuy, & ONE Add-on. No more, no less. Personally, I believe that to be optimal.

THANKS TK, IT WAS a £5.50 AND THE FIRST TIME I ENTERED SO DID NOT KNOW WHETHER TO TO ADD-ON OR NOT ( COULD DO IT WITH B/ROLL ) PLUS I WAS HAPPY WITH THE WAY I WAS PLAYING SO THOUGHT I COULD CASH AND TRIPLE UP MINIMUM RATHER ADD-ON AND DOUBLE UP, BUT ALSO I COULD HAVE GONE OUT BEFORE CASHING SO I LOST £5.50 INSTEAD OFF £11, ???

A perfect way of looking at it sporny. Glass half full beats glass half empty.
