Are you a winning poker player? - Anonymous vote.

Heard a few times, that only 5% of online poker players actually make money at the game, however small/big the winnings are.

To me this figure seems really really low, and means most of the 5% that win, must be making an absolute fortune.

I consider myself a winning player, coz its a fact that Ive won money over 5 years of playing.

This isnt a "why do u play poker, for money or fun" question, I wouldappreciate just a vote, YES or NO as to are you a winning player or not?

Any thoughts on the above appreciated too.......Im hoping to get maybe 100 votes on here, not looking to embarass people, so you don't need to leave your name or anything, but it wud be kool if you could vote honestly.

Thanx.

Id have thought it wud be at least 20% yeh.....

But it's just what I've heard.....Im not sure where maybe I read it yeh and it wud have been a few years ago when I did.

30% sounds alot more accurate to me!

despite ive cashout out more than ive put in ive still put No simply because i dont think ive proven to myself that im a winning player in the long run.

My first 6 months on sky where poor i didnt win much, but improved my game and won a couple of tournaments, cashed out and re-built, and repeated that.

But then ive never proven i can deal with a downswing, my last one cost me 100% roll and i reloaded 4-5 times, before comming back only recently. So i dont think i have any rights to say im a winning player when ive had a year of up and downs.

Maybe i have the potential to be, who knows.

NO !!! nor will I ever be, '' I'm not in it, to win it '', I have no intention of ever going to a Casino or playing live poker.  I find this on-line Sky Poker format ideal for the likes of myself,I can't take it as serious as some/most  IMO For a few £'s you can great entertainment.                                                                                          Kind regards

again the people that made this do say the online player is better than the live player, and i think take out the pro's. If you go to a casino and play NL200 and play NL200 online, they said that the online would be harder to win on consistantly.

However i believe this is because on sites such as Sky, players help eachother. When it comes to playing live, you play a couple of mates, beat them and suddenly you think your the next Phil Ivey,.

i put £100 in my sky account 3/1/2 years ago and never spent a penny on poker since....but im sure most players wont admit they are losing players because most gamblers have a selective memory ie "i won £300 on a horse once"

Books/figures I've ever seen back up that 5% fact, with the implication that bout 20/30% are breaking even, either just above or below, ie small profitability/loss, rest losing!! on line 'scoping' obvs showing true results!

Knowing a little bit about gambling in other areas, peoples losses are always more than they think!!

My first year was a loss, twice as much as i thought, when i checkedscoped, but well within mi budget![did not know 'Bankroll' then]! Am now at end of mi second year, am in profit & re-couped losses thanks to a couple of big wins!

5/6 years of spread sports betting when alot younger, gave me a massive insight to how human nature will hide losses, but maximise effect of intermittent wins, account management being essential to be honest!!
Got that out my system way back, [with a small loss], as you cannot beat the bookie on long term spreads, [where Stu Ungar fell down!!]

Be interesting to see your poll results JJ, but in truth feel results will be flawed...maybe...Be interesting to see how many people accurately track their definitve results!! I do Now! But admit I did not for a year!!

p.s. I was the best 'penny up the wall' player in Shep Bush/White City and still am LOL

    Great replies guys, and comments.

Im happy that the "no" option is getting some votes, not coz theres loads of loseres, but because it should give me some interesting results, albeit over a teeny weeny sample size.

If you play in your reglar games, ask people who dont usually use the forum to come and have a look at this thread and vote.

Hopefully they'll keep coming bak to the forum too! - cheerz guys - good stuff.
