If you have £100 in your account, the 5% rule means you can only buy in to tournaments worth £5 (5% of £100)

what it's saying basically is to succeed and make a living from poker--
if your bankroll is say £50 in the theory of the 5%--
you should only sit at a table or a tournament with £2.50--

now the purist will tell you thats so--
personally i play what ever i want and can afford--
poker is entertainment the  same as going to the theatre or buying  a season ticket for your favourite football team--
play for pleasure and what you can afford to--
unless your a professional gambler - then apply the 5% rule--

What I would add is that the 5% rule is for cash and single table sit n gos.  For MTTs, you should be using a 2% rule if you want to employ correct bankroll management.

Agreed.  Especially if PLO is your game of choice!
