Donk Betting!

This is late in the Deepstack, and i'm just wondering how donk betting is effective? I know it probably will be some how, but I think if somebody donk bets, it shows weakness, surely? Because if they had had a good hand, surely they would wait for you to make the continuation bet? Am i right or wrong? This is quite a good example, and it worked, LUCKILY ha!

Yeah i know that, but if the player has no reads (which he didn't of me), you would wait for the continuation bet, and then shove? I may be wrong but that's the way I saw it!

Or, he'd donk bet thinking you're holding the preflop aggressor cards, inducing the shove from you... where he snaps you off with a flopped set :)

Donk betting has its place, in fact- a bet anywhere in poker has its place, as long as you have a reason for it.

yeah fair enough, good point! But i still think it's a sign of weakness, in most cases.

i can tell you that when they donk bet into me for full pot i am alot less inclined to play back at them than if they donk bet 1/3rd pot

terrible hand to jam with, you have 3 outs when they call.

I disagree, if I used the donk bet, I would make it look quite weak, i.e. 1/3 of pot to try and induce the raise. With this example, he bets pot, which is a v.strong bet, and therefore he can't really want a raise? I might be talking complete and utter nonsense but it worked here when it mattered lol!
