Winning money...Then losing money.

Hi Everyone,

Interesting thing happened to me last night. I was playing cash at the International last night. I was very pleased to have walked away with £200 in profit after a night of grinding with no cards. (I ended up making a hero call on the river with middle pair for all my chips against a bluff...YAY!).

Anyway, I was driving home and I get to the traffic light junction of the A1(N) and Bishop's Avenune (don't worry I don't live there...not yet :-). I start slowing down as I get to the lights and BAM! my car stalls, my brakes seize and I go smack into the back of a lorry. Everyone was fine but the front of my car crumpled like tissue paper.

So this morning I phone my insurance company who tell me I have to pay £200 in excess to my damage. So after my nice night on the cash tables I am back to square one.

I wanted to know if anyone had any similar stories where they have won money and then have lost it off the tables.

I look forward to your responses.

Andy

I used to play Gala Notts ever night - I'm going back 7 or 8 years now. Thewy & myself used to swap 10%, & pretty much ruled the Tourneys there.

One Thursday night - the Thursday before Good Friday - I bubbled. No worries, it happens.

I drove home along the A610, on the way from Notts to Derby, where they do not have conventional Speed Cameras, but "Average Speed" video. So there's no camera "flash", & you don't know you've been caught. I left the Casino at 4.15am, & the Roads were deserted. I was just trundling along, a little slower uphill, a little faster downhill, but doing "about" 30mph.

The following night - Good Friday - I managed to cash, £600 I think. So it was 04.45 am when I left the Casino, on the Saturday of Easter Weekend.

A week later, in the same Post, I received two Speeding Summonses.

For the Good Friday morning, I had been clocked at 36mph in a 30 at 04.25.

On the Saturday morning, I had been clocked at 34mph, at 05.05am. In EXACTLY the same place.

I already had 6 points on my licence from 2 years previously, (both similar incidents) & so 6 more Points would mean I'd get Banned.

I felt I did not need a Solicitor, I coiuld defend myself. I was Guilty - of course I was - but with good mitigation - it was 5am, on deserted roads, & I was barely over the speed limit.

That was a BIG mistsake. I got a 6 month Ban, my first ever Driving Ban.

That made my job almost impossible, I could not do it well without a car, & so 3 months later, I decided to take early retirement, & just see out my remaining years nice & quietly, sightseeing in Scotland, get me a little dog, have a nap every afternoon, & do what old fogeys do, just slowly fade away.

Somewhere along the line, though, that plan all went wrong!

All for doing a few miles per hour over the limit. Fate is a wonderful thing.

    Hi guys,

My mate picked me up in his car and we drove to a home poker game. I came 2nd for £50 and he came in 3rd for £40... driving home on deserted bypass at about midnight he got done by speedcamera...

AS for me personally, if I crashed into a lorry (ala Andy) I would be -£200 if you know what I mean lol ;)

    Thats nothing!!!

I stopped for an early lunch in KFC one day, parked up for no more than 3 mins and got clamped. I had to go to the bank then work the rest of the day for nowt to pay the release fee. NOT a happy day that one!!

Those used to be one of the most profitable camera locations in the UK though more coming in from the M1 where it changes over at the Gateway hotel - comes straight off a dual carriageway to a 30 zone inside the width of a roundabout plus it was one of the first places in the UK to use average speed cameras so no one knew thats what they were at first.

Nottingham is just one big speed camera - if its not the Specs average speed jobbies its the little Hitlers in the vans. They are everywhere. I got 9 points inside 3 months of moving here!

Owning a nice car is no fun anymore - you gotta drive like a nun all the time or you pay the price :(

When i was younger i was walking down an alleyway to my snooker club through leaves and kicked a tobacco tin, no noise but felt heavy
Opened it up and found 10 gold sovereins wrapped in tissue
I took them to the police station and filled in the forms and told the date that if not claimed they would be returned to me
Put a marker on the calender and checked from time to time, no-one had claimed them
On the day i was to receive them i went to police station to find out they had been claimed, did not receive a reward or anything
To this day i think that the police took them but you can`t go making those accusations can you.

Me and a mate went to a casino in Cardiff (grosvenor). On the way there he put £20 in a slot machine and came away 10 mins later with £100. After leaving the casino me doing well at a tourney and him on his roulette we were both up by £200 each , and felt pretty flush so went to town and got smashed.

On the way back to his pub we got mugged at knifepoint.

Lesson is : when you win a couple hundred don't go and get drunk at 2am, and especially don't buy champagne and pretend your celebrating a minor lottery win in order to pull 2 old hags in the corner while being watched by a couple of skint muggers.
