Interesting (maybe) New Tournament Idea

I wonder if it would be possible to set up a tournament (possibly having to run on successive nights) in a different format. Running on the lines of a sit n go, but a MTT (bear with me).
So let's say we have 216 entrants. That's 36 tables of 6 players. As players get knocked out, the tables DON'T rearrange to stay full, instead you keep playing until there is only 1 player left on each table. Once we are down to 36 "winners", we arrange to 6 tables of 6, and repeat the process. The final table will then be made up of people have effectively won 2 sit n gos. Of course, all the cash will be on that final table (possibly paying the people who are second in the second phase). I'd prefer a deepstack blind structure (rather than something "shove or fold" after 20 mins).

That format (or very similar) exists on other sites and is played live at the WSOP and elsewhere. It's called a shootout tournament.

i think one of the things i would like is shorter think time maybe just 5 seconds instead of 15 witch is far to much time  they have speed and scary but that's only quicker blinds
or is it just me that plays it quick

I used to play something similar on anothr site.  The problem that I found with it was if you won quickly on a table you had to sit and wait for all the other tables to finish their games.

This is why I was thinking that it might have to be run on successive nights.

That won't work, alot of people will not be able to play 2 nights running therefor the runners will be small... There are always cash games ppl can load and play if they have finished early. The blinds would have to be fairly speedy or it would go on for ever, 5 minutes is good imo, the speed STT's have enough play in them imo.

As has been established earlier in the thread!

However, it would be new to Sky, and might prove a popular once a week tournament.
If we run it over 3 hours, so 8pm 216 players sit down. 9pm 36 players return. 10pm final table, then it would work. It could have a 5 minute blind structure, and that should work with the timings.

As said it's a shoot-out. Problem with them is I've played them and as someone else mentioned you often have to wait for the slowest table to finish. I've waited up to 30 minutes and fallen a sleep a couple of times.

    But then I'm old :o(

Elsewhere the majority of shoot-outs are used as a format for Satellites into tournaments.
