Extra seats for the Newcastle SPT?

MAXALLYMAXALLY Member Posts: 17,636
edited December 2010 in The Sky Poker Tour

With about 5 weeks to go until the above SPT leg, 133 of the allocated 135 have already been won. The remaining two seats will no doubt go tonight.

With some seats being commissioned for various forum competitions etc and the extra interest from non sky poker players gaining seats due to this particular venue for this leg, will extra seats become available during December?

I think there was 135 seats for Blackpool but 157 ended up playing. I am fully aware of the need to offer 'alternates' seats on the day at the casino and this is just a question if more seats can become available and what is the capacity that Sky Poker/Aspers Casino can accommodate.

    Good afternoon Alan.

    1) Seats are not, & have never been, available to what you describe, in italics, as non Sky Poker players. Except, of course, Celebs & Guests.

    2) Extra Seats - see my Posts on the subject this morning, in both GPC, & Sky Poker Tour Boards.

    3) The Capacity has been agreed with the Venue as 150. I believe Alternates will be accepted, but SPT Rich will need to confirm that.

By the bye, the difference between 135 & 150 is accounted for by.....

    1) Seats held back for Guests & Celebs. Some of these may, indeed are usually, released later.

    2) A 5 seat Super-Satellite at the Venue, as has always been done, as part of the Contract. Those players are advised that to take part they are obliged to Register with Sky Poker.

    3) A few Seats are held back for emergency omissions, "just in case", etc. Again, these will be released nearer the time if they fall free.

    Hi Tikay,

I seem to remember last years Newcastle event was disrupted due to weather.

You KNOW im not a fan of transferable seats, etc......................but just in case the weather is as it is now, I obviously would have no chance of making the event (Elgin is snowed off to rest of UK at mo)

Can you check with SPT, if under these circumstances, seats my be leleased and refunded please???

Ps is it hard for the mobility scooter in the snow???

FYI, non Sky poker players related to individuals joining the site with the sole purpose of qualifying for this particular leg of the SPT. They may or may not actually 'play' on the site but will hold an account. This is evident from posts on threads on here/other forum threads and in chat box dialouge. I am NOT saying this is improper in any way as I would do the same, but I was just trying to expand the reasoning in requesting more seats.

Thank you for your reply to my capacity question.

    Hi Plopper.

    Seats are not transferable.

Last year, when we had that bad weather for Newcy, extra seats were not, so far as I recall, released. All monies remained in the Prize pool, obv.

I would think that if extreme wearher or circumstances intervened, Sky Poker would do as they have always done - make a dynamic decision, & try to be as fair to everyone as they are able. This is exactly how they handled the same scenario earlier this year.

The default, however, is that Seats are NOT Transferable, as per the Rules.

    Oi!

This Poker Plonker played the £100 Freezeout at Luton last night.

    In Level 5, (150-300) & playing 9,000, (30xBB), I managed to get it all-in PRE-FLOP with 5-3. Villain had 4-2. What a read! The Board came A-4-3-4-A, marv.

Earlier I folded & showed a set of 2's on a non-flushing, non-paired, non straighting Board (K-2-6-A-9). He showed a set of Kings.

    Some good, some bad......

    Hi all

Firstly its great news for the SPT that these seats have proved so popular

As it stands after tonight the event will be a sell out, 135 Online qualifiers, 5 live qualifiers (Satellite in December date tbc) and 10 guests (Presenters, celebrities etc) making 150 total

I will now begin the process of seeing if we can increase numbers from 150. This depends on a few factors

    a) the venue. Can they squeeze another table or two in, if I ask nicely?

    b) Do Sky, who provide the budget for the whole tour obviously, want to increase the size of the event? The event is funded by paying x per player to the venue, so there is a cost impact.

If a and b are positive, then we are in business to run a bigger event in Newcastle

I will advise when I know more

    Alternates.

Yes, on the day, for two levels.

    In response to Maxally

the extra interest from non sky poker players gaining seats due to this particular venue for this leg,

This is a point that comes up a lot and I would like to give a broader perspective on the issue, if I may.

What are the objectives of the tour? Well one is certainly to provide a live series for existing Sky Poker players, which is clearly going to cement the strength of the community. Friendships are made, and renewed and transferred from online to live

Another is obviously going to be the direct financial benefits to the site from the rake from those players trying to qualify.

However another is going to be to get new sign ups, and therefore increase the size of the player base, and hence community, by attracting poker players new to Sky via the attractiveness of the SPT events.

Just because people come to Sky via the SPT it does not make them any less desirable as a player in an SPT event.

So, when I see comments that seem to frown on "non Sky players" playing SPT events I get slightly prickly (as one involved in several Online Poker communities). It's a good thing that these guys play SPTs, and some will stick around and become your friends.

It's a good thing that the Sky community is close and strong. Not such a good thing if that community gets too insular, in my opinion.

Thank you for your reply. I totally understand all the points you have made. I for one welcome all new players to this site and try to introduce new players to Sky when I can however 'closed shop' it seems at times. My reply earlier in this thread read....
'I am NOT saying this is improper in any way as I would do the same, but I was just trying to expand the reasoning in requesting more seats.'
My request was for more seats becoming available and I hoped I put across my reasoning behind this as clear as I could.

I hope more seats come up, but if not, hopes EVERYONE enjoys this leg.

Looks like another post of mine has become misconstrued, sigh.

    Hi SPT,

Please can you pm me as, if the cost of adding a table is approx £100, i will gladly donate towards this.

    And good luck MaxaTOMTOMknightplop tonight.

Any word on celebrity guests?? We love your cryptic clues :)

    Hi All,

Can we please stop with all this change. I firmly believe that when a set of rules a laid down they should be adhered to at all times. Whilst I understand that it is more appealing to Sky Poker in terms of prestige over the growth and numbers(prize pool etc), I find that sometimes less is more. I do believe that all the changes, from day one at this years tour, run the risk of ruining the "feel" of the tour.

I do hope that my comments are taken in the correct manner, as it is not a rant, more a fear of losing something that I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to, it's just i have a thing about "fluid" terms and conditions.

    Regards
    Col

way too early to know. Sky need to decide on whether to increase the size, and they may not. Even if they do the venue may not be able to

Odds againat I'd say but I will ask if Sky want me to

Probably could have if they hadn't put a ginormous bank of slots where the low stakes/afternoon tourny tables used to be :( But if Sky go for a larger event and you need local lobbying just say the word. Not that I have any sway but the NPF lot will want a bigger pool and I hear they have a LOT of dirt on the card room manager :)
