    He has a flush draw by the turn, not everyone understands pot odds and percentages, they just play the cards in their hand.

    i think the questions you should ask about this hand are related to your own holding...there is no reason  to be playing that hand first of all, if you feel you have the odds fine i guess but then after that flop you should either represent hitting the flop or not put another penny in...when you bet after the flop it just looks like a steal so not surprised he called you as he can hit or indeed get you off on the river
