Newcastle - extra table?

Hi SPT

Excellent news for the addition of an extra table for this leg given the popularity but it leaves me a little confused.....easy i know.
After reading in many threads "no buy in allowed on the day", only alternates for the first two levels, not sure how this happened??
Maybe I should have saved the expense of my many online satellites, then the expense of travelling to the live satellite (finishing 7th) and kept my money for just turning up on the day.

Please can you explain

i put it down to the fact that the extra table opened up was because the people who wanted them were well know players in the "clique"..... if i knew there was a chance to buy in direct on the day i would have played but stayed home thinking that i couldnt play...

    Hi

We sold out to 150 before the day as everyone knows

Before midday on Saturday we had a number of people turning up and wanting to play. There was of course no guarantee they could do so

We opened up an alternates list

I spoke to Aspers at that point to see if they could open up another table. They agreed, so the first ten alternates were entered into the competition

Another 11 players got in via alternates in the first two levels

I think this was a correct and flexible approach given the numbers who turned up. The vast majority of these people were existing Sky players. Nothing to do with any cliques, I've no idea who is who in these cliques!

It was my decision to help out those who wanted to play, and I would do it again if numbers were that high, and the venue was willing.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO RICH PREW (MR SPT) FOR A WELL RUN TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY.

OVER HALF OF THE ALTERNATES FOR THE SPT NEWCASTLE WERE PEOPLE WHO JUST WALKED IN. THAT'S 21 PEOPLE PAYING £100 THAT'S AN EXTRA £2100 IN THE PRIZE FUND THAT'S HAS GOT TO BE A GOOD THING WELL DONE RICH.

IF YOU DO NOT QUALIFY FOR AN SPT AND YOU TURN UP ON THE DAY AND DON'T GET IN THATS BAD LUCK IF YOU DO HAPPY DAYS. SOME CARD ROOMS CAN ONLY HOLD 150 PLAYERS OTHERS CAN HOLD MORE IT A RISK I WOULD NOT TAKE I WOULD TRY AND QUALIFY SO I KNOW I HAVE A SEAT

As in previous post, excellent an extra table was made available, but that’s not the point.

You can’t make up a new table of “alternates”. The alternate places are designed for people to take a seat following a player being knocked out of the competition.

It was well known how popular this leg of the SPT had become, well in advance of the day. A decision should have been made to up the numbers to 160 and have the additional 10 seats made available by satellite to everyone and not sold on the day just because too many people had their names on the alternates list.

I just feel a little hard done by that rules were bent on the day to accommodate more than the 150 seats after SPT repeated told us, “those are the rules” and “qualification only”.

I believe what Bigflop refers to is that you actually name a couple of players as “wanting to play” which can easily be misconstrued and leaves you open to criticism.

This is not a personal swipe at you, Mr SPT (excellent job sir) or the players that were lucky enough to play. I would rather have these tournaments oversubscribed than under, just saying if you are going to post the rules, then we should all stick to them and there would be no controversy.

Of course this will not stop me trying to qualify for the next leg, but for those unlucky enough not to qualify, they could always turn up on the day ;o)

The decision to add another table, or to ask for it was made at 11.55am on Saturday

Why not beforehand? Well as far as I knew the room held 150. I've organised three torunaments there to 150 players. When I turned up I discovered a revamp of the room and over 20 tables in place.

When then I had 20 people turn up wanting to play I decided that it was better to be flexible and try and help these people than rigidly stick to rules which would disappoint them

For Luton, I intend to ask them to up capacity and then increase the number of seats available by satellite. If I had known Aspers had increased in size, then would have done the same for Newcastle

I didn't favour any names or cliques, as I say tour aside I'm not that active on here. I just had a lot of people show up, some of whom I knew were regular Sky players.

Mr SPT - Job well done in my opinion.

If on the day there is more capacity then you have to take it and in hindsight if you'd known there was more seats available then the numbers could have increased pre Saturday.  Either way, more players more money and more fun, can't complain, well done to the organisers.

Only slight gripe was some of the dealers didn't give me very good cards and would appreciate matching ones next time ;-).

I would echo Supersnedd's views, but would prefer that when the dealer does give me 2 cards the same, he doesn't then deal 2 pairs to a raggy ace merchant. :-)
