I am trying to work on my cash game, I had no reads on this guy. I did have the set in the back of my mind but figured he would have raised AA or QQ, 77 is in his range now I think about it.

How could I have played this better?

pretty impossible to read trips im affraid, he bet the flop and checked the turn so no clues there. just unlucky i guess.   phil

played pretty perfect imo. If any thing i usually have it in on the flop against a decent opponent. Keep playing like this youll make money long term.

no, but i would probably just flat call the flop then raise the turn

yes but theres 2 other people in the hand that you dont really want to fold, and the aggressor is first to act so even if he checks you can still bet turn and river and gain more money from the other players.

I think the only way you lose less is to check behind, or if you opponent value bets the river. Having said that if he did value bet you would and probably should then put them all i, given their stack.
So no i dont think youve done anything wrong
