Sharons tips for beginners

Tip 1 - Your best friend at the poker table is discipline. Conversely, ill discipline will separate you from your money faster than anything else.

Tip 2 - There's an old poker truism: "you can't play with scared money". Before you go join a poker table accept that you may lose the money you take with you.

Tip 3 - Don't Stay in a Hand Just Because You're Already In It. A common mistake beginners make is to think that "Well, I've already put that much in the pot, I have to stay in now." Nope. You can't win a pot just by throwing money at it. There may be cases when pot odds warrant a call, but if you're sure you're beaten, and there's no way your hand can improve to be the best hand, you should fold right away.

Tip 2 is spot on, this definitely affects some players in tournaments and completely agree with that advice. I've been in that situation many times and still do up to this day sometimes!
