A millionaire was created at Exeter when a single on-course punter landed a massive rollover Jackpot courtesy of 12-1 chance Lupita in the final leg.

Over £2m was in the pool, but Black Phantom (12-1), Ammunition (16-1) and Mr Bennett (16-1) had seen off the vast majority of the tickets and when Lundy Sky (5-1) got the better of odds-on Glitzy D'Ocala in the penultimate race, the whole bet was down to just £1.

Lupita, trained by Derrick Scott and ridden by Jessica Lodge, who had only ever had one point-to-point winner previously, ground down Only Hope after the last flight in the Upton Lakes And Lodges Amateur Riders' Handicap Hurdle to change winning punter Steve Whiteley's life forever.(courtesy of ATR)

The guy won £1,445,671.25 !!! imagine being on course and watching that last race knowing you're the only ticket in the pot, and its going on a 12/1 shot ridden in an amateurs race by a lady who has only ever won a point to point race before today!!!

Think i would have nearly had a heart attack if it were me, great story and fair play to the guy with his picks, wonder if he did them in a bet with eachway trebles etc, with two 12/1 shots and two 16/1 shots a £1 yankee would have paid a small fortune.

Amazing story i watched the racing today was willing his last horse home.The horse had never won a race and the lady jockey had never won a race under rules.

Quality story. Watched the last and thought that his horse had ran its race to be honest. Chuffed when it rallied and got up near the line. A feel good tale at its best (for him at least!!!)

And to add insult to injury there's an old woman in North Tawton in Devon this morning sitting in her cold flat wondering where Derek the heating engineer is..................
