What should I do next?

I've noticed that MacGregor likes to min bet when he has a hand. He's also fairly loose and very aggressive. I've been playing fairly tight. We're half hour into a MTT. What do you do next?

I'd probably flat here and see what he does on the turn, still possible he has set here or flush draw but see what the turn is and how much his betting and go from there

    Meh. Sometimes.

Just get annoyed by people limp calling and then leading out into me and tilt shove.

Edit: Besides with stack sizes I'd be shoving overpairs and flush draws here too, not just AK.

My read on him was hat he had nothing. His bigger than normal - for him - bet felt like he was trying to steal. I guess I'm a donk, because I shoved. He called and I was right. I was winning. But then he hit on the turn.

no ur not a donk! u got in good and vs this player it obviously was perfect to shove(sort of)

personally i prefer the flat as we will have a better idea of their range, they could have A8 or hit on board or they could have overs like in this case. i think in future this is risky play but on this occasion was spot on so unlucky

Flat calling doesn't achieve much here I don't think.

I only shove when I'm certain, or short stacked. Thanks, it's good to hear I've played it right and was just unlucky.

deffo with cliokid here, shove ftw

when someone flats your raise pre then leads into you, it's very rarely with a strong hand I find- he's trying to test the strength of your raise and buy it off you. AK is going to be live against so many things, he either has a weakish pair, in which case you've got ~25% to pair up, no pair no draw and you're going to be a 75% or more favourite, or he has a drawing hand and you're more like 50/50. If he does have a set or two pair then you're massively unlucky ofc. But the calculations don't take into account the possibility of him folding, which gives a lot more muscle to the shove- if he has a hand like 45, A2, 89 or so he may fold- obv this villain is never going anywhere with his donk call with KJ.

Flatting is awful, and with your stack size you don't really want to be chucking away over 10% of your stack for nothing when you still have a pretty decent shot at doubling through. Gotta make your stand sooner or later or you'll be shoving with a lot, lot worse than AK on an 8 high board.

    Wp, unlucky he hit.
