Just a ridiculous Night.

edited March 2011 in Brags, Beats and Variance

Has anyone else had one of those nights where they run so bad its beyond belief. Im well aware of the variance factor and how it can all change so quickly but it seemed everything i entered tonight i ended up losing against some very oridnary plays.

One situation really annoyed me, in the £11 bounty hunter i raised in the cutoff with AA and was called in the SB.

Flop comes 2 5 J rainbow i make a cont bet and he raises all in. I think for a while but end up calling. He shows 10 6 and hits turn 6 river 10.

On another occasion i have 10 10 v 9 9 in a 11 pound sit and go.It ends up all in after the flop of 8 6 4. Turn is 5 and river is 7. This is to name but a few of beats.

I thought i stayed off tilt pretty well but needed this post to let it out. Anyone else had a night like this?

The complete opposite for me tonight - I binked everything, including a shocker with A-T v J-J. Board came 2-2-J-A-A I think. Ugh.

On another Table, my A-K held "on the bubble" & some poor chap berated me uphill & down dale for 20 minutes solid.

My KQ v MickJenn A-T (AIPF) was a bit ugly, too, running Queens getting me home.

    Oh, & Quad 5's.....

And Set over set with K-K-K v 8-8-8.

I guess I just get lucky a lot.

Boy are you lucky its been happening to me for nearly a month!!

Of the all ins iv had iv been in front around 80% and lost 75% of them, to make matters worse I don't know if you notice but the games are getting very aggressive and there are big bets, raises, and re-raises.

Iv had far to many bad beats to mention and wont bore anyone with them as everyone has been there! but the latest was tonight in the 9.30 BH, I'm all in with A J and get called by J 10 and a 10 comes. Don't even ask about the AA KK iv had and been cracked.

The four years iv been playing on sky Iv always kept in the black this is the first month iv not done so and have had to reload my account several times, even the wife feels sorry for me so it must be bad.

the only thing that keeps me going is that it will turn around and then I want those lag's and donkey players that love to gamble and go all in because when I turn my cards over and I'm in front I will stay there!!! so don't despair your not the only one that cant win at the moment everyone goes through it (although never this long  lol) but I still love the game and its not life and death.  good luck

I think - or hope - it will, actually, Splashy.

We all get the same luck, no matter who we are, but it comes in batches, good & bad.

That's all I'm trying to demonstrate. Luck is a huge part of poker, & we all get roughly the same amount of it.

Several players were very upset with me tonight, but luck just happens.

Tomorrow, I hope it's their turn to get lucky.

I'm not familiar with the concept of "bullying" in poker.

The (previous) hand you refer to was standard stuff, as you played your hand face up.

You Raised OOP, I re-raised with Position, you flatted out of position (BIG clue!), then, another huge clue, you CHECKED the flop & so I c-bet, & you snap-folded.

I don't need a hand there, as your play told me you never had much, probably a big ace or small pair. That's not "bullying", that's just poker, trying to "think" through a situation.

I was playing very deep at the time, so I don't need a hand to make that play. You had typed in the chat-box shortly before "zzzzz, tired of getting no hands"*, & I was pretty sure you were getting frustrated, so it looked like a soft spot to me.

    * Please remember - we do NOT "need hands" to play deep-stacked poker, we just need exploitable "situations".

    Keep positive mate.

You obviously understand poker and variance, and it makes a refreshing change that you haven't come on blaming the site blah blah blah.

I had a terrible month this month. I play a lot of cash and I play with a 40 buyin bankroll. I was down to 22 at the weekend and it was really hurting.

Somebody who I am sort of mentoring (God help him) said to me just take a break from cash and go back to MTTs for a bit as we both know thats my strength. I played a £500bh and won it for £150. I then played the primo that night and cashed 14th for £127. The next day I decided I would stick to MTTs and played the 8pm 8k bh, and went on to win it for £1300.

So I went from the lowest of lows, thinking OH SH!T if something doesn't change soon my bankroll could disapear, to then suddenly being £800 in profit for the month in 2 days.

    Crazy game this poker thing!!

Stick with it, cream always rises etc etc

'Sick' chatbox read from the veteran lol pro!

Isn't it called isolating the fish? ;) lol only joking sporny.

But on a serious note, in all your poker related forum posts you talk about hands. Not getting any cards, getting cards and everyone folding, or finally getting good cards and someone having better cards......

The sooner you realise that you could and should be able to win pots without good cards, the better. - That doesnt mean bluffing every hand, or c betting every pot.

Watch your opponents and figure out which ones are sat there waiting for good hands, and take advantage of them. Good hands are hard to find, so you are going to make them fold alot, and win alot of pots!

You are too tight passive, which is better than being loose passive, but you can still improve by trying to be more aggressive......

Just something to think about bud, then maybe TK will think twice about trying to own u next time ;)

    Terrific Post by dohhhh there.

It is nothing to do with "getting hands". Hands help, they are just a bonus though.

Sit at a Table long enough, concentrate on playing, watching, thinking, & not Rail Chatting, & you'll be amazed at what you can observe, learn, & exploit.

Against some players, you do need a hand. I sat on the wrong side of a guy who had 22,000 when the average was 6k, he was Raising every single hand, & calling everyone very wide. Yum yum yum.

This is true at the highest level when players should fold as appropriate but how many time have you been called with any two and they hit? especially in the tourneys, and in the tournys whoever you are you will need a bit of luck, even cash will call for a gamble at the lower levels

Writing (typing) this a little drunk (TK would never approve) having posted my lack of luck earlier for the last month , I managed to quite easily being chip leader almost throughout, to satellite into tonight's 15K BH and came 30th just goes to show it will turn around eventually.

Although, I also satellited into the SPT semi went all in with A K os got called with A K s and lost to a flush but I'm not bitter as there are plenty more SPT games just glad I got hands and hit!!!! GL ALL and especially you callumtres
