Am visiting family in birmingham for a week or two soon.  Anyone know any good events in those parts?  I know there's the grosvenor on broad street and the ?rainbow?.  Can anyone recommend any events?

Anywere from £50 to £500, the bigger the field the better. (NL/FL/PL HE)

the rainbow has had a makeover but the only poker they do is a private cash game,
the broadway casino is ok & there's always the grosvenor at walsall...pretty sure both of these will have nightly tournaments

I like the place but I was surprised its so small, there's like no room when filled to capacity.

    JUST LOL

What sort of a stupid thing to say is that?

When something is full, there is no space? erm wat

it wouldn't be full if there was space.

Have you been to other card rooms in the UK?!

Have you been to 'the vic' ?

DTD IS THE BEST AND BIGGEST CARD ROOM IN THE UK WITH THE BEST STAFF AND THE BEST TOURNAMENTS.

    simple.

seriously bud what is with you?

I take it you just enjoy being rude over any little thing huh?

I think the tables are too close together, theres just not much room.  The floor space isnt massive either.  You werent just a little dissappointed the first time you walked in?

I've played in alot of events where the field has been spread in rooms as big as a football pitche, in camparison its a bit of an elbow knocking squeeze.

When its laballed europes premiere poker venue, you'd hope it would be a little bigger is all

Havent yet been to the vic, planning on spending a week in London this year though to make a weeks run at it.

Don't go to the vic, it's tiny, runs 70 man tournaments and caters to the high rollers of this world and I don't mean 5/10 cash. You are treated like SC_UM if you don't play 25/50 +.

You don't see the sillynes in saying, when dtd is full there isn't much space?

I find when the rio amazon room is full of people that there is less room than when it is empty.

DTD is the biggest card room by miles in the UK, has the best staff and runs excellent tournaments. We aren't in the las vegas desert with unlimited space, DTD is incredible and I cant imagine you'll ever be happy anywhere if you don't think it's better than anything else the UK can provide.

Fair point, silly statement in general (packed to capacity)

First time I went I was just expecting more, you know?   The first MTT's I played were in Hotel/casino function rooms.  Then started locally at grosvenors etc, so i was expecting it to be HUUUGEE.

Thanks for the heads up on the vic.  Was only planning to play 2/4 to begin (or there abouts) and go from there.  I dont really want to play even the sniffed at 5/10 till i know some of the regs

    yes I do understand.

Yes it does get 'full' and to get the 50+ tables in it's not exactly a massive open space. But for the UK it's amazing and we really shouldn't complain they worked so hard to get it set up, and put so much time and effort/money into running it and trying to provide the best they can for the customers.

You will find some excellent games/action at the vic but beware. You will be treated poorly, regs will get preference, there are lots of house rules you need to know to get into games quickly and not have your seat taken.

The 1/3 600 max is a very juicy game as can be the 2/5 and 5/10. Often times you get people in the 5/10 waiting for 25/50 + and they play hilariously.

hilariously as in its too little for them to care about so they play bad/very specutively while waiting for the bigger game?

yes one guy tried sitting in 1.5/3 600 max with a 5k chip asking if we had change. then he just moved in every hand till his 10/25 seat was ready. That sort of thing happens all the time it's pretty ridic.

Casinos in the UK are restricted by size anyway. That's why it is ridiculous that card rooms come under the same gaming legislation as casinos and as such have to have the same licenses, which are prohibitively expensive.
