Is there anything I should do differently here or is this just a cooler. I've been caught like this several times lately with the nut straight and the board pairing on the river.

Once the river pairs and he shoves I'm calling pretty much expecting to have got done.

Dont think anything is wrong here. Paired board is a worry but you win this most of the time. Unlucky!

I think the raise pre is fine too. Dudeskin, if you read this can you explain why this raise is too big from the button please? I would have thought it a pretty standard raise from position. Cheers.

Well before he acts he has 2277, 333 is 14% of his stack, imo you get the same answer by raising to 250 - 2.5X maybe even less.

Also in this spot he's flopped the nuts but 66% of the time he'll miss completely so will be bluff c-betting and therefore raising smaller pre means you can c-bet smaller and fold to a raise, if he c-bet/folds here it is for a 1/4 of his stack. Raise to 250 would make pot 550 on flop and so could c-bet around 280-300 and get same answer.

I've been kicking myself for days over this. Something so basic I've missed it up until now.

Most of the lower end tournament players standard opening raise is by 3 x BB. If you watch the big boys playing cash their standard opening raise is to x 3BB, and boy doesn't that smaller raise give you more control.

    Big thanks to Dudeskin.
