One of poker's absolute legends, George Geary, is very ill indeed. Here's a statement issued yesterday......

"apparently george has had a major heart attack, so serious i am led to believe,
that brain damage has occurred and life support being turned off is imminent.
george lived for poker and was always a regular face at all the major festivals,
as well as some of the biggest cash games in the northwest.
most of us have played with george many times, he is a real gent.
our thoughts are with his family at this time, especially his two sons who travelled
the circuit with george, and who also love the game we play.
we had already discussed the irish open and george was really looking forward to playing this year,
he had already bought in to the irish showpiece.
not a lot more i can add really just such a shock and very sad indeed."

Many of you will not know George.

However, when Dan Brown made the Final Table of the Manchester GUKPT, George Geary, who must be the best part of 75 or even older, was on the same Final Table - he was the guy with the trade mark over-size electric fan on the table.

Amazingly, he followed up that GUKPT Final Table with a small cash in the Manchester UKIPT. What a legend.

If you doubt his ability & longevity, look him up on THM - "George Geary". Old school indeed.

Funk for him, please.

I'm sorry to say that it was reported yesteday that George has passed away.

I saw this statement on a Forum, both poignant & fitting, I thought.....

"....yesterday at 12.15 george geary cashed in his chips and walked away from the table. a true gentleman and a legend....."

I have been sharing poker Tables with George for 10 or 12 years. Poker, & life, will be much the poorer for his absence.

Condolences to his family & friends.

    RIP, George.

    ALL IS WELL

    Death is nothing at all

I have only slipped away into the next room

I am I and you are you

Whatever we were to each other

    That we are still

Call me by my old familiar name

Speak to me in the easy way you always used

Put no difference into your tone

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow

    Laugh as we always laughed

At the little jokes we always enjoyed together

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was

Let it be spoken without effort

Without the ghost of a shadow in it

Life means all that it ever meant

It is the same as it ever was

    There is absolute unbroken continuity

What is death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind

Because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval

    Somewhere very near

    Just around the corner

    All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost

One brief moment and all will be as it was before

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
