Help Please!!!

There I've said it! I need help! My therapist will be proud, that's my wife by the way. First, I must apologize for my antisocial behavior, although I've been playing sky poker really hard for 6 months now and apart from playing at in SPT at Luton, I've never taken time out to get involved in the commuity. That said, now to the selfish part. Help Please!!! Background - I've been playing Poker for about 4 years, I started playing in a league at the local pub and I have had some success and still play every Monday night, however mainly for the social side, certainly not for the money. I read a few books in the early days, my favourite and most informative was Harrington on Holdem. I watch all of the poker tourny's that are televisedand I rate peolple like Daniel Negreanu and Roberto Romanelli, mainly because they are skilled in getting information from their opponants. (Note to self - read Daniel's book.) My stlye, and I'm sure I'm not giving too much away! Is loose aggressive, although I do try to mix my game up abit as we usually run into the same players. Someone said to me the other day, "Thats the first time in 20 hands that you haven't raised from the button!" and as luck would have it, and much to his disgust, the only time he had AA. I used to play on the large US sites and I did have a really big win, coming 2nd out of about 3500 runners. Since playing at Sky I've also had some success and as a result I do have a healthy bankroll however, I'm strugling to move out of my comfort zone and buy into the bigger tourny's, I don't normally go higher than £110 -£120 buy in. I think part of the reason is due to the fact that I feel like I've run into a wall. What I mean is, over the past 4 weeks my backroll has stagnated. "Oh dear"I hear you cry, I know, at least it's not going backwards. But, I feel I need to move my game on to the next level. Without mentioning any names, mainly in fear of missing oneone out. I see the same people in front of me on a regular basis. I'm starting to think that I need to go back to the books or change my game somehow. Anyhow "Help Please" I will read everyone's advise and thank them for their input. Thx Rick (AKA NoFinAce - pronounce that however you like lol)

Im not going to even start to give advice ( im not worthy ) but iv been on the site a few months and from time to time i like to find players and see how they playe ( successful players obviously ), and NoFinAce has definitely been one if them. Obviously varience could be an issue of late but maybe it could be because your recognised on the site and oppenents find knocking you out as a scalp, players playing looser more aggro, trying more bluffs against you.

my first piece of advice is use paragraphs:)

How big is your roll? Should be over 2K to play £100 buy in tourneys. You obv can take a shot or 2 with less, but I wouldnt do that when you are not happy with your game

MTTs have huge variance, you are going to have times when nothing seems to run your way.

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are looking for. Just work hard at your game, if you are not winning(actually even if you are winning) look back at your hands and see why that is. You could easily be running bad, its also possible you have some leaks or are playing on autopilot too much

Hi,Monday night and I've just come home from the pub and true to current form went out on the bubble, However, thats another story. Thx for the positive feedback and the boost in confidence, and you may be right, it is possible to become a target however, that may be because I'm recognised as a loose player rather than a good player.  .    , n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:

IMO you are a winning player and people arent going to give you any advice , unless you find someone generous who can take you up the next level

grind it out prob just variance gl

IHi, yes as mentioned my bankroll is not an issue. However I've never considered myself a gambler and that may be the main problem. From experience I know that MMT are my stong point and as such thats all I play. I am also aware that people  have good and bad runs. I have two sayings in poker. "Poker is a game of skill with an element of luck" and "Your cards are only c r a p before the flop" (good name for a book lol) Re the advice I'm looking for, I think a lot of people get stuck at some level and I am just looking for the right words to move me on. Autopilot may be a key word, may be I do fall into that trap. Thx Rick  .  n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:

IHi Young Gun, lol, are you saying better players won't share any of their secrets with me? That may be a fair comment, but I think what i'm asking is, if people have found themselves in a hole, how did they dig themselves out? Thx  n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:

Basically yeah, unless you befriend someone who you think you can learn from who can take you to the next level and talk through hands together.

Nofinace you appear to have a similar Background to myself. Mucho respect very few players come out of the pub game and are profitable. I cant think of playing you before, maybe for the better, but young gun seems to have good words about you, and therefore i have full belief you have a game. Hes rarley wrong about a good mtt player.

One thing thats youve mentioned and im talking out of my own experainces and i suspect a mod will delete this. I played the 3600 runner tournys aswell and ive got a good record of running deep in them too. You seem to be similar. On the US sites did you play full ring or 6 max? This can have a huge differance tbh. I struggle on 6 max and thats why i dont play on sky for more than enjoyment now,

this is maybe something you could look at?

the thing that strikes me is you are talking about whether your roll is growing as opposed to how you are playing

i think you should focus on your game and let the roll take care of itself.

This is because you can play perfectly and lose - or play like an idiot and get lucky. However, over time, we expect playing well will work out profitably where is in time, if u keep playing like an idiot you will lose.

So, just analyse whether you are playing well, or whether you are making silly mistakes, being too tight, too aggressive etc

Variance will have too big a factor in MTT to make uselful analysis based on your roll fluctutations

    Lol.

I cholked on my beer when I saw you describe yourself as LAG.

I once saw you blind down from 10xbb to 1xbb on the bubble of a small bounty hunter, treble back up to 3xbb twice, and blind back down again, just trying to make the cash......

Theres no way that min cash could be significant to ur BR.

I'd describe you as a slightly better version of Bar4004.

Hi Don, lol I must put young gun down as a friend!
I always played full ring B4 i came to sky, and now I prefer 6 max and thats all I play.(online-of course) Having said that, I do believe my style has changed, and definately the cards I play out of pos. The other thing I like about Sky are the smaller fields and playing the same players on a regular basis. (Oh, and no Russians!! lol) but this maybe a part of the problem. Just perhaps I need to mix it up a bit. Thx rick n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:

Hi Codex, you raise a good point re focusing on the game not the roll. I must admit I've gone through a period of logging profit and loss and as Dohh mentions, tightening up as I approach the bubble, which actually may fall under the heading of silly mistakes. I always reflect after a game and think of other ways I could of played certain hands. One word that keeps appearing is "variance" may be thats part of the key. Thx Rick    n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:

Hi Pryce, lol I know we've battled it out a few times in the past, and just maybe, I've played, how can I put it? unconventionally, but when you run into the same players frequently, is it not good to mix it up a bit? Thx Rick   n Response to Re: Help Please!!!:
