Hand 1 rr more pre and then decide if 50/100 is to early to race for your tourny, sometimes early in a tourny take a flop with ak.

Hand 2 either rr pre or as above if you think it is too early to get aggro with AQ call, but then you have to raise flop and bet turn at least 2/3 of pot

Agree with Mattless in the second hand, you need to re-pop the button raiser and take the initiative, he may call, healthy c-bet though on flop though and job done; doesn't get anywhere nr rivering his trips...

JJ v AK, depends what you want from tournament really.  I probably do similar. Think you could be in pretty good shape here, standard spot where button raises with the goods, SB is a non-believer, sometimes you'll be racing, a lot of the time they'll dwell and fold, and another 10-20% they'll call with a worse A than yours.  - ul

Hand 1 is fine, I prob 3bet bigger

Hand 2 I prob raise pre, but I think flatting is ok too. I dont mind the c/c flop, theres a good argument for c/r though. As played I fold to river shove, I wouldnt fault you too much for the call though getting over 2/1

    What is this argument?

Coz he might have hands like AJ/AT?

    Hand 1 fine, I re-raise more 600-700

hand 2, I may re-raise pre depending if i think the raiser has been openning alot or wide? , I prob re-raise flop. I like check calling if i have a solid read that im crushing the villain + they are likely to bluff every street. As played i prob check call river for pot control although i would be confident im ahead but your only going to get re-raised by a hand that your beat, you probably could bet fold but dont like bet and call all in

I prob c/c too fwiw but:

1 if we c/c he prob gives up on his bluffs nearly all the time anyway
    2. he will prob call a c/r with worse
    3. He may be more likely to call a c/r with something like A8 then call a turn shove than bet 3 streets (or than bet 2 and call a turn crai)

I would raise ip here close to never, but oop where we cant control the betting as well I might consider raising.

Im happy to check raise cos we are out of position and im happy to take down the pot there, also agree we will get called by worse aces which we can get in on turn

I do check alot of late if people are going to 3 barrell bluff which is successful but sometimes its hard to put someone on a hand unless you have a solid read imo so i prefer vs unknown check raise with a view to gettin it in.

lol i might aswell put as above edit ftw

Surely there is a risk of trying to extract too much value early in a tournament, by check calling flop and checking turn we allow worse hands to catch up, we are more than likely ahead on the flop, better to take down a mid sized pot than risk losing half stack

ty for input guys, in hand 1 i mainly wanted to know if I was right to shove so early in a tournament because it is something i often end up doing as it's a great chance to double if i'm against AQ etc...

in hand 2 the villain had being opening a lot of pots (all the more reason to 3 bet I guess), on the flop I was confident I was ahead and I checked the turn with the intention of raising as I was expecting another bet, so the main mistake was not betting on the turn???

    hand 1 played fine - 2.5X 3bet is fine
hand 2 played fine - tough spot on river, think id pass after long think

villain opening a lot is not necessarily a reason to 3bet. Checking turn after c/c river is fine in hand 2
