My view was that he was repping the 8's but i cant see him calling with an 8 this early. He'd re pop it pre with AA or AK etc so it has to be air right? Cant have the straight can he? Flush draw? He'd shove rather with that probably? What do you guys think.

Pre should have been bigger but i suppose i was trapping hoping for a caller.

always difficult to open with such a strong hand so early on in an MTT.
I think pre raise is fine as is flop.
    turn - pot bet - A8/89?
some people seem to like an A early on and will see a flop with it. Hits top pair with kicker so calls flop?
turn - gets excited and bets out?
or he has an over pair also and with seeing the second 8 he bets out hoping to close it down?
he's pot committed now so will probably call a shove or bet the river

    difficult one.
I'd probably sigh big time and fold. it's only an over pair. its early days and you haven't lost that many chips.
on another day though, I'd shove!

Pre seems ok to me maybe 120 but still gonna get call.

    Flop great.

Turn I'd fold, yes he could be bluffing but good donkeys always go crazy when they hit so I reckon he has the dreaded 8 here.

Yes as the pre flop raise was not alot bigger he could call with anything so the 8 is defo a poss xx

Yes i aint sayin pre was bad BUT just sayin a raise to 100 prob dont fold out a hand like A 8 at this stage of a lowish buy in tourny xx

We do want him to call with A8 as many times he will not hit trips on turn and then we win moniez. Of course he might not have an 8 and just be bluffing knowing you have an overpair but I doubt it.

readless, in a small buyin mtt, i am defo stacking off here. Just shove it, he dont have to have an "8" at all imo.

Right, results time. It was really a 50/50 call but i just couldnt see many people calling pre flop with a raggy 8. Very unlucky for her to have 8,8. QQ+ re-raises pre flop most times. Set was a worry but hey ho. Cant see the straight, happy for him to have two clubs. I shoved thinking i was probably still good and also thinking 'sod it, i'll just open another one if i have lost'. Anyway..........................

I would of definetly put them in, why would he lead out if he turned trips? he would try to trap you, i think you played it perfectly, never a need to 6x KK pre whoever said that, WP NH

That was my thinking on it. The pre flop raise means i would be extremely unlucky for her to hit the straight somehow. My worry was a set that made a full house but you cant be scared of every hand that beats you. I was just a little unsure with it being the first hand in a tourney, people are usually fairly quiet unless they are strong.

Depends if it was a bounty hunter... people kick off early if so, i was recently called all in with K10 on a AQ56 board. they just love the bounties!!!

p.s yes he did river the jack :(

    +!1 Defo!!

But tbh, I'd rather have shoved over his 230 flop bet, lots of scare cards poss. on that turn!!

I know he folds & u win smaller pot, but hey, few less grey hairs mate!!!

Now if thats is a £110 dym i defo fold if i get to see that turn card, so EVEN more reason for the check shove post flop!!!!
