In Response to Re: Poker puzzle : You've got it confused. Two pair works, quads doesn't. The 32 has to be ahead on the turn and NOT win outright after the river.

on the turn KKKK3 beats KKKK2 any card on the river means that the 32 can't win outright

No, Talon's solution works just as well.

    Note to Dave:
Next time you set one of these, please supply the UN arbiters and peace keeping force.

UN arbitration? Don't worry about that - I just lost a fiver backing the squirrel to lose in that fight.

To be honest, both the 72 v 45 and 32 v 22 examples work well. The quads one doesn't because of that whole 'deuce on the river' thing.

Come on folks, get some more out here so we can all scratch our heads some more...

OK, this isn't as good as yours and I've posted the answer elsewhere on the forum (so no cheating and looking) but, just to keep the momentum going, here's one in a similar vein.

In Texas Hold 'Em what are the maximum number of outs that you can have to win a pot outright after the river heads-up against an opponent that is beating you after the turn? What hands would you have?

    Oooh, tempting...

    KhQh vs 22 on a Jh Th Tx 3x board must be a contender: any A, K, Q, J, T, 3, or hearts.... erm, 24?

2h no good - either the 22 contains a heart or he makes a boat if it comes on the river.
The T's are no good either but I'm guessing this is a typo for 9's.

    So 3*A, 3*K, 3*Q, 3*J, 3*9, 3*3 and 8*h = 26, I reckon.

    Edit:

I've been corrected by Talon. Only two of the 3's (as 3h is already counted) so 25.

    On mine if i am right you can hit 8 diamonds, 2 3's, 3 4's, 3 5's, 3 6's, 3 7's or 3 9's. Unless i am well wide of the mark

    Why only 2 3's?
Any 3 will do - so 26 outs again.
