Hi TPTers I see we are not having the rub of the green with our big hole cards so lets see if I can help.
Advice to Rectify the problem Immediately I see from most of these hands that have been posted, when we have AA, KK, QQ, AK etc, that all the chips are going in. Is this really a good thing when in actual fact we are holding the worst hand (A Pair) you can get in poker.
Lets think logically, the only hand we are beating pre-flop is a smaller pair, I know those Pocket aces & Kings look enormous pre-flop, but once the flop is down, we are still only beating a smaller pair, so don't get all the chips in at this point.
Example If we are holding KK, AA, and the flop comes down Q98 for instance I can tell you a lot of the time you are going to get beat here. WHY? because most people like myself are going to be playing connecting cards such as 9,8 or QJ - So you can see immediately in this example i've hit 2 pair if i'm holding 98, and also have a straight draw if i'm holding QJ with 2 cards still to come.
Even if the oppo has called us with KQ, QJ here, he will think he is ahead and is either going to play the hand across the board or call your all in and his hand is more likely to improve than ours because he has more outs.
Remedy Don't get too attached to your AA, KK, QQ - although they can be a great shoving hand pre-flop in certain positions, once the flop is down they only have a "pair" value which is the lowest hand you can have in poker. Make the raise 4-5x pre-flop, even higher early on in a tourny 6-8x when the blinds are still small.
If we get a caller to the flop and its our turn to act a 3/4 or pot bet should be enough to take it down. If we get called here after our post-flop bet, then oppo has most likely hit top pair, 2 pair or even a set. At this point we need to slow the hand down. Check and fold to any shove and move on to the next hand.
There is nothing wrong with folding big pocket pairs like AA, KK, QQ post flop, just keep saying to yourself - "Its only a Pair" - By letting them go you will be protecting and preserving your stack and most likely saving your tourny life.
Aim to build a stack slowly rather than risk it all on a pair and I certainly do not advice getting all the chips in with these types of hands once the flop is down. KEEP THINKING!!!! - IT'S ONLY A PAIR
Remember. Make the bet BIG pre-flop (We don't want any stragglers) Continuation Bet Flop - 3/4 pot at least Slow your hand down if your Flop Bet is called Fold to any raise or shove Be prepared to fold and move on to the next hand.

Hi Pom. Yes a Classic Example I see.
I certainly hope you can keep this in mind and I hope it helps yours and everyone elses game.
Trevor AA, KK or AK might be the worse hand (a pair) in poker but they are the best STARTING hands. In the first example I posted villain has raised to 120 and I reraise with the best starting hand possible. Maybe the only thing wrong was the size of my reraise and it should have been bigger but I believe it is still big enough to say I have a big hand you should fold. When he makes the call I have to put him on a big pair or at the least AQ or AJ. Looking back over the hand now I will concede the possibilty he might even have a middling pair and is set mining. If he hits the set I probably go bust as I know they are many players downfall and impossible to be certain about. With that flop of Q 10 9 rainbow I decided to put him all in as it was straighteng and wanted to make it too expensive for him to call on the draw. There is no way I'm putting him on 2 pair with that flop.
In the second example it is easier to analyse. Very laggy player getting very lucky continually stealing blinds going all in to win 300 chips when first to act? Sorry Trevor with AK and the one of the small stacks at the table i'm calling all day in that situation. The shock of them doing that with Q 7 was echoed by at least 2 other players.
Redking's hand? Well that takes the biscuit.
I think your summary at the end is pretty close to the way I play and I would sooner win a small pot than lose a big one but sometimes I despair at the way people play. The consolation is that I know I will win in the majority of those hands, but everyone will tell you it hurts at the time.
I appreciate your post and your doing a sterling job as Captain.
