Apologies in advance for my ignorance.  I probably should read a poker rulebook.  Apart from playing online I also enjoya weekly game at the pub.  If a card is flipped over during the deal can the player elect to still take the card or must it be discarded and used as the first burn card.  Regards, Geof

we had this at a local pub game iw as involved in. the guy asked to keep the card and was allowed to keep it in ours. it was an 8 and the simple answer we said was what if the flop comes 888, or even 88, or even just an 8 how is he going to get paid?

it only gives an advantage to the other players let him get on with it.

PS dont know the official rules this is what we just played

official ruling would be exposed card becomes the 1st burn card, ensuring all players view the mis dealt card.

In a home game I think you can offer the choice though :p
