I'd go back in time and not raise about 15% of my stack with J9s. Certainly not when you're raising into someone who has only just sat at the table, you don't know anything about them and they have double your stack...

    Just fold.

EDIT: Maybe I was a bit harsh, I guess you had the button and not many to act after you but if you raise 3X at this stage, get a call and then a reraise, you're not going to be in great shape with J9s, you're only options with your stack size and the blinds and the size of the pot already is shove/fold and it's a definite fold for me.

You have 21 BB left if you fold, so you still have a playable stack.  I don't like a call for 10% of your stack to see a flop which might not hit.  You have a player behind who also has shown interest and will be priced in by a call. A re-raise is committing a large pecentage of your stack to the hand.

What hands do you put your opponents on?

    I prefer a fold here.

J9s is a nice hand yo play in position, could limp behind here as when it hits well, you generally have the best hand even in a multiway pot - ie stright or flush not top pair

this way you can see the pot cheaply and maybe hit a huge hand thats hard for someone to put you on

if the guy is a serial limper, raise is fine, but as first hand he's played a big pair is quite possible and its better to try and punish him for limping by taking cheap flop and see if hit

as played, fold unless you have reason to believe he min raises light

You have 24 bigs when it gets to you, raise is ok if you know he folds a lot and even if he calls you can cbet IP.

However for me I'd just fold this pre rather than raise, obvz as played when he reraises its a snap fold.

THanks for ALL the replies.  You confirmed what I thought at the time. I made a mistake and realised it as soon as the hands turned over.  I don't tilt but was annoyed with myself. It was a lesson learnt.  Heres how it played out...

if you have decided to play this hand with the limper before i would make the raise 4x as you are almost gurenteed a call from the limper the blinds know this and are more likely to call because of this the 4x might put them off abit as it is i fold to the 3bet
