Won Hand but didn't like Play

Playing 0.25/0.50 on other site and literally 2nd hand after joining and HEM hadnt loaded up yet to get stats on those on table. Only thing whihc convinced me on rver that he could have absolutely nothing making this shove profitable was because he was literally insta calling very bet i did. I mean he could have lots of queens in his range but was hoping for a cying call of 1010, JJ hand or just a fold from a bust flush draw. However i often get in this spot on the rover when the one card i dont wan ot see hits and in almost always put the player on the hand EG Flush, Trips. Therefore i almost always end of checking the rover to them and they jam and i either crying call or fold and regret it.
So in this spot say against a god reg what is the best play as you cant afford to always just put them on the bset hand? Is cjeck calling this river acceptabe.
