Please, please, please can we get rid of this?
1 - Surely I can't be the only person to find this really annoying
2 - With the size of the tables it's too easy to misread someone's stack size when they've got fractional chips
I was Playing a D/S the other day & when I got moved to another table I initially thought someone had over 100k when in fact they had a little over 1k!
When using the 1/2 pot & 3/4 pot betting buttons could the software not just round up/down to the nearest number? Also similar with split pots. I've never played live so I don't know how it's handled there when an odd no of chips is won in a split pot so don't know if it's as easy as just giving someone an extra chip rather than splitting it?
Maybe it's just me but i'm sure there must be other people on the site that hates this?

The general convention is that the winning player nearest to the left of the dealer gets any extra chips/cash after the pot has been equally divided (to the nearest whole chip) between the winning players.
This is already in place for cash games, i.e. the SkyPoker software doesn't award fractions of pennies in split pots.
The usual rule live, as far as we used to do it, was a card turnover for the odd chip. Highest card takes it.
If more than one odd chip and more than 2 people in the pot, then multiple turnovers, sometimes involving 2 or 3 cards for one player against 1 card for another.
for example if one player has 75% of the spare chip and the other 25% then the 75 had 3 cards to find the high against 1 card for the 25%.
This can happen rarely, usually in the case if an all in winning a main pot and the side pot shared.
I don't see a problem with 1/2 chips here, they are stated quite clearly under the name. And anyway, it would be seriously unfair to take even a percentage of a chip away from a player and certainly they could not add to the chips in the total pool.
They could however just show the chips to the nearest chip as 1/2 a chip is not going to affect whether you will call or not. The exact amount could then be shown when you highlight the name of the player.
Rounding chips up or down is something that needs to be done with great care, as Players get very uppity if they are rounded down, even though it's only a fraction of a chip.
In Live Poker, the method of deciding where the odd chip goes varies fom venue to venue, but it's usually "to the left of the Dealer" who gets the odd chip.
To illustrate how sensitive players are to this odd chip, here's a tale from Gala Notts a few years back.
The Tourney was now at the 1,000 - 2,000 (Running Ante 200) Level, so the 25 denom chips were no longer needed. (They never had any 50 denom chips). So, it was time to "colour up".
"Colouring up" is when the low denom chips are removed from the Table, & replaced by higher denom chips. So, if you had 4 x 25 Chips, they'd give you a 100 chip.
But if you had FIVE x 25 Chips, or 6, or 7, there would be 1, 2, or 3 "odds". These "odd chips" would be "raced off". The method of racing varies, but is not important really.
So, they did the race off, but there was confusion as to where the Button should have been for the Race Off, & two guys started arguing that each of them was entitled to have won the race. The row escalated, some argy bargy began, one guy hit the orther, trhe other guy hit him back, da de da. It ends up with one guy - "Burglar Kev" - being arrested & charged with GBH, & both guys banned from the Casino for 6 months.
This was all over 1 x 100 chip. The blinds at the time were 1k-2k, & the average stack was 43,000.
Go figure!
I understand what you're saying but as per my original post they're actually not all that clear under the persons name. The commas & decimal points are so small that it's too easy to misread people's stacks & I don't know about other people but if i'm deep in a tourney I don't particularly want to tangle with another big stack unless I've got a monster. Saying that I do like your suggestion about displaying stacks to the nearest whole chip as you're quite right in saying that the extra half chip or whatever it may be really won't influence decisions.
This must be to make the chip stacks easier to focus on, so I can actually understand that. I only really play sng's so ultimately the stack sizes are easier to monitor.
When being moved, I can see the difficulty in having a quick glance round the table and mis-interpreting chip stacks.
Even if Sky made this a feature on the download, where you can choose to have chip stacks shown to decimal places or not would be an improvement and then, ultimately, no one can complain, becuase you choose the option best suited to your own needs.
Chairs were flying in all direrctions, blokes were effing & blinding, someone's meal got slung across the room, it was horrible. All over a 100 denom chip.
There were some right characters there, mind. Burgler Kev was so-called because - well, his name was Kev. There was a guy who'd raffled his house - Tickets were £500 each - & his wife had won the raffle. Fancy that. He did 8 years for that, I think. 4 Finger Jimmy, Greek Jack (he was from Cyprus), The Cockroach, Belly, Weedy Weed, there were some right sorts. Devilfish was a regular there, Micky "The Worm" Wernick, Lord Gosney of Leeds, Pete The Poet Costa, & it's where Julian "Yoyo" Thew & I began playing poker, & where our friendship started.
I stopped playing there about 5 years back, as it was Self-Deal, & some of the "dealers" were mechanics. One had just done a 5 stretch for VAT Fraud, & there he was, Dealing......The Cash game there was crooked (at the time), too.
These guys who reckon Online Poker is rigged have never lived, I tell ya.
Happy days. I think......
As you clearly know, Mr U is not exactly a paragon of virtue, shall we say......
He doesn't pop in here from time to time?
