One to gag on? Fortunately it wasn't me...

Was watching the Sky Channel the other night, and the cash tables prog. The programme got around to the five cash hands of the week. Not me of course - at the level I play at you're never going to see my avatar on the tube.

This one was a hand where a reknown Sky online player was sitting at a £1.50/£3.00 table, and was dealt pocket threes. Another picked up pocket kings (if my memory serves me right). These two saw the flop and a three hit the board. Post flop, and on the river (no change card) the pot got raised up, and the the guy with the pocket kings went all-in to the tune of around a grand. The pocket threes called - so both players had dropped a grand or so into the pot. Can't help thinking there was a bit of over-betting in here by the person holding the kings, but hey-ho.

River card? King. The classic "Casino Royale", 22-1, "he just got lucky" river card.

Even for a professional player, who regularly plays with four figures stacked on the table, to drop a grand (which equated to over three buy-ins on one hand) in such circumstances must have left him gagging - although these things will always happen eventually if you play every day, and I'm sure he's now over it and he'll win it back.

A salient reminder to me I think, why I should only play this game for pennies and the challenge of the numbers and the entertainment value. I watch these games on the box occasionally to see just how much better the players are at this level than at the penny tables where I sit and play - some of the calls and behaviour I've seen does leave me to the conclusion that some players aren't actually much better, they're just prepared to risk more money? All down to what you can afford of course, and what it's value is to each individual.

Good cards everyone.
