To shove or not to shove?

Out of position in an MTT, down to 16-17 big blinds, dealt AK.

Big blind is "away" so will fold. Limper has only recently been moved to the table.

Should I just shove this?
Pysterman Small blind  50.00 50.00 1640.00
R_IVERS_10 Big blind  100.00 150.00 975.00

  • A

MHC Fold
jimyenglan Fold
rod215 Call  100.00 250.00 2108.75
TRIP5 Fold

If I just raise and get called, what then if I miss the flop? Can I give this up?

If I plan to raise and then c-bet if I miss the flop then surely I should just shove now.

    Hi,

I would just shove, raising is tricky especially if you miss the flop, and you are most likely to get called by a hand you either dominate or are racing with.

Its not a nice spot to be in but checking/folding here is terrible IMO.

If i have less than 20BB and pick up a premium hand like this I just shove. Way too many players call with worse

This is the way I actually played it.

I raised to 400, got called with 78 suited.

    Flop comes 10 6 9.

    I shove.

    Adios.

Looking back, I questioned whether the shove pre would have been better than the stop and go (hence the thread). In this case he probably would have folded, buy maybe not.
