what are your opinions of league poker in your local pub/club.

    Played it once.  Its fun and just that.  No real skill in involved really.  Everyones terrible but structures have to be super turbos for obvious reasons.

    Just something to have a laugh with mates with really.

    Fantastic for getting new blood into poker tho

    Have a few beers (as long as ure not drinving!!!) and treat it as a laugh withj your mates.

    Dont take it to serious or pick ppl up on stupid mistakes you'll only upset them i.e string betting.

    If you just want a beer, & a social game of poker, I guess it's fine, but it bears no resenblance to the real thing, & if you intend to ever play "real" Live Poker, I would not recommend it, as it breeds bad habits & etiquette.

    In "Pub Poker" players are generally allowed to "pull in" their own pots (ones they won) or even "make change" in the Pot. In "real Poker", regulated poker, if you ever done that, you'd be snap-thrown out & slapped good & proper, because "the pot" is the responsibility of the Dealer, & no player should ever touch it. This is a typical example, there are many more.
     
    Putting glases or bottles of beer on the poker table is another, do that in a proper poker venue & you'd be shot, quite quickly, too. Poker Tables are for chips, & cards, not beer.

    Speaking for myself.  Pub poker is how I got into the game just less than 12 months ago.  After listening to alot of my mates chat about the game I became intrigued to find out more about the game,  I haven't looked back - you could say I am hooked (my bank account certainly thinks so!).  Pub poker has been very good to me having won a few times it boosted my interest and willingness to learn more and improve further ... I now find my self on the eve of my first SPT this weekend which I am looking forward to enormously.

    The negative side of pub poker is the amount of "experts" who analyse your every hand (and you are always wrong when you beat them in a hand!), the many beer fueled arguments, really bad play and not to mention the odd brawl   ... well thats enough about Birkenhead haha

    I love pub poker but I agree nothing like the REAL thing :)

    Where I started playing Live.  The standard tends to be horrific.  Yet you do get some decent thinking players at them.

    One of the key ways to improve your game is to discuss strategy and lines with peers.  If you can find the topend players and bounce ideas off them, generally getting into the mindset of a thinking positional game it can only be a good thing.

    Problem is there is also alot of bad habits to pick up.

    They tend to be ultra turbo roulette where no one really cares whether they win or lose.  Other than that, they have been a great platform for people into poker.
