Should i of checked behind??

Dont usually play mtt's but had a bit of time so fancied a go. I had xx down as tag. so although i was gutted to lose this hand after turning the nut straight and a royal flush draw, could anyone give me any reasons for possibly checking behind??

    bet bigger on flop & turn. river decision should be whether we bet/fold or bet/call. checking behind is too weak imo
