I know it's an awful spot to fold and it was played really badly, but what should I have done?

If you called the turn cant see why you have not called the river... how has his hand improved?

Having just looked at it again this morning, it's not got any prettier!  I think they call it fear for your tournament life, horrible play!

Would still love to know what he had though.

Good for him but it doesn't change the fact he spewed off 9k here, yes wp but results orientated thinking won't help anyone improve as a player ;)

when you check call the turn you should be check snapping off river that isn't a scare card the line you took is rather confusing from the c/r on flop to the c/c on the turn... why no lead on the turn after raising the flop ? you must be thinking your hand is good by raising flop by c/c turn you basically have set yourself up to be bluffed off on the river blank or not...... its possible you were a mile behind but as soon as you call turn you just have to snap off river i think................... but nonetheless congrats on the 5th place

edit: also realised you hav only left yourself with 3k behind ? 3k to win 23k makes the river a bit easier to call off with your stack compared to pot size

Call pre is fine, given nutter's opening probably alot of pots. Altho on the other side i dont think will be light UTG pp or AK/AQ or pp so have to bare in mind you could be dominated

if u think ur good on flop should bet calling shove, problem is its pretty good flop for nutters range too so would have preferred a check/ call and re-assess on the turn.

again dont see how u can check call turn and fold river, can fold turn or call when any safe cards hits as it did.

You had little behind so doubt nutters ever bluffing here, but ur turn call is bad mate.

you were behind reckon to AK minimum but live and learn

The way the hand played out, if nutter had AK he would of checked the turn, not bet.

Your always behind in this spot, you have c/r the flop which is ultra strong, checked the turn & nutter has bet into you instead of checking behind, which means monster hand imo, probably 2 pair or Q 10 - its only 5 handed so i would of defo shoved pre flop !!

    shove pre or crai flop

once you just raise flop OOP and Nutter calls - emmmmm bad spot

either got you in bad shape or is just waiting for you to check turn

I don't think he is floating you here though, you seem too strong
But you can't give a player like Nutter the chance to rep Q10 !!

On turn - c/f or crai

Yeah, tend to agree now the call on the turn was just awful as I had already mentally given him credit for 2 pair, don;t really know what I was hoping for, he was never going to check down on the river.  Once I'd seen resistance to the check raise I think check fold would have been the right move.

My play for the rest of the tourney was pretty good though and was really pleased with how I played the latter stages.
