Diet is going ok (ish). Been eating Salad/pasta combo each lunch time, still having fruit before and after lunch and drinking a lot of water. Most evenings I have had a plateful of veg and some meat to accompony it. I had a cheat meal last night - fish and chips, not gonna beat myself up over it as I have been quite strict other than that.

Excercise wise I am walking a lot atm but not made much effort to attend the gym, obviously this needs to change but I am not stressing atm about it.

The other fatty is doing well he says and doing a lot more excercise than me but no doubt he will be online at some point to elaborate further.

    Hi guys,

Yeah there was some info on here that needs correcting. You don't turn fat into muscle. You lose fat and build up muscle. But the fat itself is not physically transformed into muscle.

I've been in the gym a fair bit in the first 20 days of Jan and been pretty good on the old diet on the whole. My weight however, remains the same. But I'm not worried at all.
What's important is that I'll be losing my body fat percentage.
So the idea is- my body will be made up less of fat and more of muscle.

Sounds weird to say this but this whole fat-loss thing is not about weight, full stop. It's about how much of your weight is fat. So you could have a rugby player, built like a tank and weighing an absolute ton. But he'd be the fittest and healthiest man in town and also look the business because he's primarily muscle with very little fat. Purely based on weight, many rugby players would be classified as obese.

Then you could have a 13 stone guy who is total blubber and he'll look much worse plus be unhealthy and unfit. He could be anything up to 7 stone lighter than rugby man- but it makes no odds. He's the one heading for the health problems, not the guy who weighs a ton.

So, in short- don't obsess about what the weighing scales say. Go more on how you feel and how you look. Whether or not your usual trousers are getting a little loose, for example. Little victories like that.

But the facts remain, cutting food down and eating better is good, but you've got to exercise to really kickstart the fat loss. I know- it's really boring but I'm afraid that is the cold, hard reality.

    Suck it up, soldiers!

Keep it up guys- proud of ya!. Almost a month in the bag now already!

Its another sensible post by Rich. Some great advice there.

Question for Gregg and Dylan. Now you are eating healthier, do you feel better for it?

More great advice Rich, much appreciated!

What I've highlighted from your post sums me up.

I've got a slim frame, but always been a complete shambles fitness wise.

I've been on my own 'get fit' mission from start of month, gotta make sure I keep it up so this thread's been great4me2.

    Keep it up guys!

    Keep going guys!!

Looking forward to the weigh in this week end, hopefully you both will be making good progress.

Coxy and Rich are bang on about the old fat v muscle stuff.  That is why in the rules it was hit your target range and then look into body fat.  You have to dig the foundations before building the house.

I just weighed myself and I currently weigh 17st 10lbs so a loss of 2lbs.

Been another ok ish week, still eating some bad convenient food but walking a lot atm but stepping it up in the gym on monday so should be interesting.

Im awaiting Gregdonk to come on and tell the world that he has lost 6lbs or something but tbf if that was the case then he would deserve it, he has been puting a **** of a lot of volume into the excercise, much more than me so I hope he losses a load - unless he got drunk (again) last night after winning the Open. Congrats Greg, obviously your new regime is helping you with the poker and long may it continue,

    Good question!!

Im stumped though. I probably feel better for it but I don't think I do, or is it to early yet?
Perhaps it's because I still smlke so I never feel that healthy when having a ciggy.

I think I am on course now and into an ok routine so the next balance is excercise so I think I should feel a lot healthier then. Or am I being weird and I should feel healthier now I eat mostly salads? lol

I am at SPT Luton, so can't officially weigh in today as i dont have my magic scales, but i believe i am roughly the same weight as last week

I have lost a stone since 1st January and I think this is good, but i have started to get back into bad habits again.

One thing that will remotivate me was yesterday, i bought a new shirt, really smart one, from TKmaxx. It was an XXL so i didnt bother trying it on, just assumed it would fit

When i got back to the hotel, the thing didnt button up, as it wouldnt stretch around my enormous belly!!

    I weighed in at 17st 9lbs this morning for a 1lbs loss.

Not great tbf but at least it is a loss I suppose.

Did slip slightly this week, had a McDonalds Tuesday lunch time and ate some sausages (not the low fat type) on thuesday evening so not good at all!! Apart from that, I have been continuing to eat loads of fruit, vegetables and drinking loads of water. Excersise wise I have a lot to do here as this is going very slowly indeed!

Overall, I am happy at where I am having lost 11lbs in January but with a long weekend in Dublin next weekend I am going there to enjoy so fully expect a non-losing week on my return.

I have been re-reading some of the advice on this thread and it's really good to go throught it again and help motivate myself in the tough times, there is truely a lot of very good advice there, so, than you guys!!

    Right you two!

This is what i was talking about only a few weeks ago. Sound like you two are starting to slip just a little and this is where discipline comes in to play. You want to lose weight and become healthier? Its not going to fall in to your lap, it takes time, effort, patience, discipline and most of all hard work. You will have the odd bad week, thats a given, but dont let it snowball in to two bad weeks, then three etc.

Dylan - McDonalds??? Seriously! Do you think that tastes good? You have improved your diet for the most part, but you really have to start exercising so you can earn those 'treats'. You have done well so far and shown a steady weight loss but you need to step it up regarding exercise otherwise you wont feel the benefits of your weight loss.

Gregg - You have done really well so far but dont let weekends away become an excuse for easy weeks. Have to remain hard on yourself, even when away!

Seriously guys, i cant express how much better you will feel in yourselves if you really go for this and keep it going long term. By long term i mean the rest of your life. Please, for yoursleves, do not slip back in to bad habits. You keep it up and eventually the thought of eating a McDonalds will physically repulse you.

    Good luck guys!

Hi Mr Sharp, I appreciate your bluntness and honesty in the above post, sometimes we need a kick up the backside so thanks for that.

I agree McDonalds is not the best meal in the world to have and I should have resisted temptation perhaps whilst in their establishment - I do like their coffee though I must say and used to have 2/3 large coffees there each week and that was my fist one since the 1st of January.

With regards to the excercise, I do walk/jog 3 nights a week and which considering I used to do none  of that I would say is a massive step in the right direction. I also walk a lot at work rather than taking lifts or driving to the shops etc so again another vast improvement. I would like to step it up firther with more gym work along with the walking/jogging but it's baby steps atm, I don't want to rush things and I think that I am progressing along nicely - deep down I want to go and train 6 days a week like I used to back at University and perhaps that is where my frustration shows when I post as I always state that I need to "step it up" etc with the training, when in fact I am doing considerably well according to friends and need to be patient and listen to my body because there is no way I could do the gym work that I used to.

My diet has endlessly improved and my first real test will be next weekend in Dublin, I will not begin to kid myself that i will not be drinking or eating a lot but I think that I need to manage the volume of consumption that I will intake and adapt my food wherever possible to look for healthier options when eating out.

As stated, thanks for your brutally honest post Dr Sharp and please keep it coming!!

P.S. Are you a real Doctor btw? only just clicked with regards to your alias lol!!
