this hand was in the the open 2 nights ago, think it was pretty standard but i havnt been playing much tourny poker recently and im not sure it was the right spot. jim had just joined the table 5 mins ago with the chip lead in this and i know hes a good solid player. were down to 70 players from 450ish and the money starts at 50, i think im sat about 30th at this point so comfyish. looks like a steal from him in that postion , ob i dont want to flat as almost all flops dont improve me and will be facing multiple over cards so jam thinking he can only call with 1 of about 4 or 5 hands (which i dont think he has). is this too risky at thispoint of a tourny and should i have put this down?

Against this type of player, n 95% of players that play DTD just tighten right up in pots they open, especially when they're making it 4xbb like this.

They're never light, and theyre never folding.

it wasnt dtd in was the open. just felt from that postion it was a steal, played jim a lot of times and as a tkp player i get to know quite a bit about his game. like i say if he doesnt have aa kk qq ak he cant call.

I'd wager the standard is the same if not better than the Open lol.

Also would you not be shoving AQ/AJ here as well if you can shove 44 ?

i think the standard is higher in the open at this stage (hence why i went out lol). dont get your 2nd bit mate, i didnt mention the range i would jam over the top i mentioned the range he had that could call me! :-)

If oppo has been opening a lot pots and raising every btn then you should have enough FE to shove

You don't really want a call do you )

Maybe just thinking oppo can only call with a small percentage of hands without no other prior knowledge of oppo opening range on the button or otherwise, I think is possibly a mistake.

You even state oppo is solid, maybe a greater chance oppo opens narrrow and more chance of being called :S

I know we are not massive deep but do you ever consider 3 bet folding spots like these :s

i hadnt considered it tbf. the reason i did it was because he was a good player and was able to put down a mediocre hand. maybe it was a bit risky and too late on to be doing this.

If you can shove with 44 then surely shoving with AQ/J/10 even A9/8 is possible so his call is very good against your RANGE.

I think you need to see folds 40% of the time here to make it ok versus oppo perceived calling range of JJ+,AKs,AKo

Think the maths is right anyway :s
    someone confirm ?
