Is there ever a situation where this would be worth considering?

If I am on the BB, I usually fold once the flop is down if I haven't hit anything and sometimes I fold even if I have hit something, That way it saves me getting into a lot of bother with cards I would normally fold Pre-flop.

Sometimes 3 handed in a DYM it can pay dividends, because u r telling your opponents it's HU between them.  It is position dependent.

No reason to ever do this on any street other than the river.  Even then I still don't, I'm not one of those people precious about showing their cards.
