IMO you should never grind for points without a bankroll system. In most cases this only makes it worthwhile for those with decent sized bankrolls. Chasing for 500 and 1000 points just isnt worth it. If you have another personal challenge and happen to hit a cash level then its an added bonus.
I started playing on here last summer. I gave myself the 'recreational' tag because I just enjoyed playing so I played which ever games I wanted without a BR system. A couple of weeks ago I looked back and realised how much id blown. Although it was a decent amount I could justify it because my new Poker hobby over the period has been much cheaper than my previous hobby (boozing). What did get me though was when I looked myself up on Sharkscope.
It basically told me, and anyone else that wanted to look that I really wasnt as good as I thought I was. I decided from there with 98 pence or so in my account that I would set myself a challenge using my own BR system to change Sharkscopes opinion of me.
The system is basically that starting with the minimum stakes and building up I can have no more than 10% of my BR in play at any one time (except the odd treat such as Forum DTD). I dont play much cash so basically its as follows...
Under £20 - £1 DYMs, HU or Freeroll MTTs Under £30 - £2 DYMs, HU or £2 MTTs Under £50 - £3 DYMs, HU or £3 MTTs Under £100 - £5 DYMs, HU or £5 MTTs ...and so on.
Obviously the above amounts are minus the rakes but im sure you get the picture.
I've played the odd games just above my rules but been fortunate and won them. I've more or less stuck to the above though and it roughly a week and a half got my BR from the Quid mark up to just over £50.
I've not really set a target or anything im just hoping to carry on as I am. If I go back under £50 then ill move down a peg again and work back up.
I wasnt going to do a diary although I do enjoy reading others but thought this idea may interest others who are thinking of starting challenges of their own.

I know whaty you mean about boozing. £3.90 for a single short the night . not in a club , in a pub.
Although i haven,t played much online recently i have played afew hours live in local pub, whre they play 2 nights a week and the drinks are cheaper - Only play for a fiver and some pts but its a good laugh. Play 2 games in a night - 3k chips - 10 min blinds - starting at 25/50 .
Came 3rd and joint 1st ( split it ) from 18 players on Wednesday then 3rd and 1st last night with 20 players.
Played on the Action tables for an hour 3 x tabling Nl5 and NL10 and have got to be happy although i,m about even. Got it in good and was unlucky on a cpl of occasions below
It did start with Aces holding up for a £17 pot, but i,ve just been making small deposits . Will update tommorow. Might play some more timed tourneys . Only played a £5 and a £3 but £30 up on them. 1st aim is to get the £50 back i deposited and lost last Saturday night after i got i to 80 and went up to much to NL20 action - Not a good idea and won,t be doing it again in a hurry
How u getting on since you posted Slaver?
1/ I,d just lost a fair pot the hand before and could have looked like i was tilting so thought they would call me down lighter

3/ Justice . Finally get a bit of luck ,. To slow to top up tho. Against this player i was goin all in om flop anyway
Been away for a few days and still finding it hard to get back into it, although watched some of the show tonight and managed my longest session in about 3 months - A whole 2 1/2 hours. It turned out better than expected after some mixed results at low stakes HU and a DYM earlier in the day, but played some NL8 and managed to win a few buy ins
I,ve tried the new timed tournaments and really enjoyed them to, so will set a new pts target for nxt month by which time i hope to be in more of a routine as the last cpl of months i,ve failed miserably in reaching any targets set

I agree with this but my challenge to myself is to get back playing again on a regular basis. I used to hit well over 1k pts every month, ( often at micro stakes) but the last 3 months haven,t even got half way there
GL MP33 with your challenge, regarding the happy hour i think the 2/4p level is included as it says it is when the pop up shows correct me if im wrong anybody?
yes, the new c4p suck @2p/4p. you now only get 1 point for every rake hand instead if 2. u r only better off now if u can get between 1501-1599. once u get to 2000 u r worse off again....relatively(£24 instead of £30). 2p/4p is included in the happy hours

Thx for the support Dazler
Didn,t realise the info above although its not something i need to worry about this month. Hopefully it will in March
Didn,t play again tonight, only because I was out playing live in my local. We only play 2 games but it can go on for a few hours.
As for 2p/4p I,ve been moderatly succesful over a long period of time , but think its time to stick with NL8 and NL10. Just don,t feel I can improve my game at that level. If of course i go on a huge downswing i may go back to it.
Its hard to leave it alone ,especially when you,ve played it for so long and have so many notes on your opponents and feel confident of winning but its time to try and move through the levels, although i won,t be making the same mistake i did a few weeks back and jumping to Nl20 playing 4 tables. I got battered to put it bluntly.
i would definatelly reccomend NL4 for anyone learning to multi-table though
