time to give up but not stop (ish)??

I`m giving up smoking, now if i remember penquin7 asked the question should you play poker while giving up.

Well knowing what i`m like with temperament i don`t think i will play the next couple days, it`s not that i`ll be rude to players but will go all tilty thingy and chasing which is never a good idea.

It will be hard i know as i do/did enjoy a ciggie with my coffee/beer while playing poker and god help me with that after dinner ciggie, luckily at my age me and misses don`t do that very often so the after passion ciggie won`t be a prob.

I may play one game tonite to see what it`s like (god help us). but after that i`m taking a few days off to help with giving up, and with luck the no playing poker will make it easier, although i will be still around the forum mainly team talk, so you ain`t got rid off me completely (ohhh shame).

So good luck to all on the tables enjoy the peace an quiet while you can.

Good luck sporny! It's the best thing you'll ever do. One thing that really helped me quitting was putting an amount to it.

I used to smoke about 10 a day which these days is in the region of £3 depending on your preference, so I had a calender and on the day I quit wrote £3 on that day, 4 days in I wrote £12 on that day and so on, it doesn't take long til you're like Jesus, I've got £50 in no time at all.

Thanks guy`s, i also posted in team talk by mistake so yours is there and in answer to yours for which i never put opening post.

I`m giving up cold turkey, so no spray or patches.

I know doing this will be harder but if i can do it this way then i can do anything.

Thanks again, tough nite esp with, will try and say nicely, na link >>>  why can`t i beat xxxxx so much so i want a ciggie to calm down.

Was going along nicely till i ran out off finger nails to bite on and it`s difficult to get to toe nails, well at my age it`s been years to got my leg up/over that far.

The one thing i have desided on is staying away from poker for a few days, so thanks to XXX ( the link), it`s not going to help running into these ??????, which has been happening far to often.

So to all gl on the tables and enjoy the peace on them, and for forum members not so much i`ll still pop in.

Good luck Martin, cold turkey you are brave.
I give up 12 months ago with the help of patches for 9 months, the last 3 months I have not used anything. It was 1 of the best things I ever did finally got rid of that horrible smokers cough!!!
I smoked between 20/40 a day, started smoking at 14.
The playing poker is difficult at first as a ciggy helps control tilt but it does get easier, good luck again!!

WELL HALF WAY THROUGH DAY TWO AND NOT FANCIED A CIGGIE AT ALL, MIND YOU I HAVE CHEWED QUITE A FEW PENS AND THE YELLOW PAGES ARE GOOD TO, SO MY FINGERS CAN DO THE WALKING.

STILL DEFO NOT PLAYING POKER EXCEPT FOR FREEROLL (IF I NEED A FIX) AS I EXPECT WEIRD PLAYS THERE.

SO GL ON WHICH EVER TABLES YOUR ON.

Good luck in your effort but I have to say you have picked the hardest way to quit. If you find you need help can I point you in the direction of Champix? It can only be given on prescription from your doctor but makes the quitting so much easier. It basically tells the brain you have enough nicotine in your body so you hardle get any craving.I quit by using it nearly 3 years ago after being a 20 a day man for 40 years. It's not suitable for everyone but can work wonders for others.
Hope you do manage it sporny  so good luck.
