Timed tournaments

I cannot imagine that Tikay and the other presenters are overjoyed at the introduction of another 'lottery' poker game aimed at the gambling addicts amongst the Sky poker players.  After trying to improve standards of play for many years with constructive advice, the speed, velocity, chip ans a chair and the new timed tournaments have little to do with poker and more to do with swelling the coffers of Sky poker.  The faster you can get players to keep shovelling money in, the more they like it.  This is like playing a 5 over cricket match and I know how much Tikay would enjoy that.  These games  require players to shove with marginal hands in the first couple of rounds just to stay in.  Where is the skill in that?  Let's be honest, a lot of players are addicted to the game, playing for hours on end each day.  The thought of not playing is like a smoker not having a cigarette.  Bankroll management is not a consideration to an addict until it becomes a serious problem.  OK, we are all responsible for our own actions but Sky already has their Sky Vegas site fot the gamblers, so please leave the poker site with some level of integrity.

I hear what you saying, but you still have a choice you play them or you don't, i am still relatively new to poker, and still learning how to get the best out of my ability, and hand i pick up, these timed torrnys throws that out the window, but saying that it also shows you what you can get away with, i will be playing a couple more of them but wont be taking them to seriously until i no what i can get away with, i hope this response make some sense.

Have to agree too, not for me, though im sure my 2 quid donation to 3 hour deep stacks is anathema to the super dooper speed hyper turbo timed games that I see increasingly.
I'll stick to playing poker badly instead of roulette to an even worse standard ;)

Thanks pod1,  I played 3 games and it's not for me but I'm sure it will be popular.  I just think it's a backward step.  I play mostly MTT's, a lot of BH's and you get a decent game for your money.  All the best.

This is a bit like the test cricket fans who complain about 20/20 cricket. Yes, pureists will always prefer well structured deepstacks, but personally I think there's room for both types of tournament. If you want some not too serious MTT fun and don't have much time available these new timed tourneys are ideal.

Live and let live, Sky are trying to cater for all, I'm glad they're trying out new ideas like this.

Thanks Glen,  I agree - to each his own - you won't improve your game but if you just want a bit of fun then go ahead.  I like MTT's as you can learn from the decent players, of which there are many.  Good luck with your game

Thanks Gary,  Point taken.  I just wish Sky would be more inclined to come up with ideas to reward skill rather than luck.

These Timed tournaments are basically like playing a regular tournament around the bubble.  You start mastering the strategy of these and you will improve your mid to late MTT game.
